Rattle??

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

Well I tried looking for it but nothing really helped....first off i have a rattle under the hood...toward the right side (when you are looking at the car) it isnt bad until i get into the 3000 rpm range and then it is very apparent....i dont want to mess with the timing belt/cover until i am preatty sure thats what it is....any one help me???

Best bet would be a bolt holding the exhaust heat shield down has rusted through or come loose. When your car is cool, try and check that out.

or just take the damn heat shield off, and dont park over dry grass :Pthat damn thing is the first part to rust and corrode anyway.

or you have a spun bearing and an exhaust leak, but that would be worst case senario stuff right there. DOn't ask me how I know what that sounds like.

ok thats just not cool!!! I am already having to replace the clutch (thats my bad) but i hope its not that........

The exhaust heat shield covers the exhaust manifold. Find the hottest part of the car when its running, bingo thats it.

The KA24 has timing chains not a belt. One of the more prone noises is from the upper timing chain guard which can be removed with no negative side effects. Simply pull the valve cover and remove the two bolts holding the guard on and disguard the guard...lol.

Or in what I think is the worst case, which usually happens at 3000 rpm, you have a case of rod knock. Which at best means all new main and rod bearings.

most likely your timing chain or heat sheild, after 3grand do you have anypower?

well it was the heat shield so thats good.......but next is the timing CHAIN cover.....its not rattling to bad YET but i am going to remove it anyways.........
