Have this rattle that is intermitent..

Sometimes can hear it when:
after startup and going into first (right before and after clutch is to the floor)
in neutral if I add gas
in gear while deaccelerating
almost always hear it for a brief second when i turn the car off

sounds somethin like a loose piece of metal, rock in a box, ball in a spray paint can..
thinking it may be the shifter bushing or shifter spring? any ideas?

ill try to get it on youtube, so far everytime ive tried to get it on camera it doesnt rattle..... usually how it goes i guess
almost impossible to get it while in gear and deaccelerating tho since, you can barely hear it while in the car and highly doubt the camera would pick it up (exhaust...)

honestly i dont know... by that you mean the timing belt set correctly? or the use of an inductive timing light?

and is a ping the same thing as a surge?

btw.. where is the egr valve ? im not sure if the previous owner did a delete or not and i was looking around the engine and didnt see the valve, is it underneath?

ignition timing is set with a light, the timing belt effects only the physical timing

a ping is preignition, also known as detonation, sounds like marbles bounging down your exhaust pipes

the egr vavle si ont he back center of the intake manifold, it has one pipe that leads to the bottom of each side of the plenum just in front of the PCV's, it also has a pipe taht goes down tot he drivers side exhaust manifold
