I rencently notices(after the last oil change about a week ago) that after the car warms up it will start making a loud idleing noise...almost like a rattle or really fast knock. It isnt like a metal clank so i dont think it is a rod. I have heard something like that before. As you rev up the engine the rattle gets faster and blends in with the engine sound. It almost sounds like an old engine. But it isnt all that noticeable when right in front of the engine. its like the cab makes it sound worse. I was also recently informed that the transmission is going to need work sometime in the near future. I went to put it into reverse and it reved up a little then started moving...no jerks...just acted kinda like a hydrostatic transmission. I used to drive a forklift that had one. anyway, the trans fuild doesnt look bad but was a bit low so I dont know if it is one big problem or two different ones....i am trying to trade it in anyway even before i heard this, i just want to fix it with some lucus oil add. if it is just too thin a oil or something. I had it change at a different shop then i normally do.

auto or manual? im guessing from things you said its auto. but if you have been told work needs to be done on the transmission then its more than likely going to be something to do with that!

sounds like a transmission issue to me. or a collapsed hydraulic lifter on the 1/3/5 cylinder intake or exhaust valves. 1/3/5 are closer to the firewall from left to right like this:

firewall/cabin 1 3 5 2 4 6Radiator/bumper

your transmission may have hesitated b/c you may have been rolling forward when you put it in reverse. just a guess

Sounds like you may have thinner oil and/or low octane fuel.

The FWD 3.5 tends to ping/knock on acceleration when thin oil and/or cheap gas are used. Also the oil may be low, have you checked it? What did they use?
