About a week or so ago, I straddled an exceptionally high manhole, because I didn't notice it in time to swerve or slow down. Well, two loud metal to metal bangs later, and my exhaust rattles.

It only does it at high rpms, and it sounds fine at idle. At lower rpms while driving, it sounds ok, but its not as deep and throaty as it once was.

Is this a real problem, or just a trivial annoyance?

btw, I already checked for fluid leaks after the run in with the manhole. Everything seems to be fine. I couldn't locate where it hit though. I don't really have access to a jack that i'd feel safe supporting the car while I get under it.

I would guess one of the exhaust hangers is broken. You can get a jack and a set of jack stands for pretty cheap from your local harbor freight or equivalant

Yeah, it's probably an exhaust bolt or an exhaust hanger that's loose or broken.

harbor frieght sells = 99 cent store of tool shops specializing in crappy tools that work once then brake, but cant be beat for tools you dont use often or stuff like jackstands/claps others parts were name brand doesnt count for much...but yeah autozone could set you up with a jack/stands combo for pretty cheap, its a good thing to have.
