Rattle from header into Exhaust....piece of metal rattling in header...wierd?

Hi Guys

I have a strange question to ask... lolOn my exhaust header I have a tube coming off it...and there is a piece of metal that is stuck in there. It rattles and make a noise while the car is on.

I guess what my question is....why is that there? should something else be there? and should i take it out?

Sorry for this if it seems dumb..... it just seems kinda odd to me that this is there? and I am wondering what that tube coming off the header is for?

It looks like your EGR valve. It's there to recirculate gas exhaust back to the cylinders. You can block it off with an EGR block off plate or cut some of it and clamp a hose between it.

Ok, now the block off plate would go at the back of the intake manifold, and for this valve on the exhaust manifold I have read you can buy a bolt from nissan or somewhere that will seal it up.

Where have you guys gotten this bolt and plate from?

You can probably get it from Nissan or your local auto parts store.

Update.

Took out the other bolt. The previous owner tried the bending the pipe method. But it failed to last long as it rotted and the were wholes in it..causing air to go through, thus giving me that rattle.

I replaced it with the nissan EGR bolt plug (part # 14052-21R00).Put some blue thread locker on it, and bolted it in place!

Started car, and worked like a charm!...prrrr's beautifully!........

buutttt...... then

After I let it idle for a little bit, smoke started coming from the valve!!!!

I did stray some liquid wrench(non-flammable) on the old bolt in order to get it out. So Im thinking the heat from the engine and header was just burning up some of the liquid wrench that went onto it.

Please tell me I am correct, and this bolt is not ****ing anything up....like the exhaust manifold???

must have just been the residue....let it idle for a while and it smoked for a bit..then it was gone.

All worked out perfect!...no more rattle
