i searched, and ive read the diy but im just double checking since im laying down a color instead of flat black
does this sound right?
im going to be using all rustoleum products

step 1: wash and let air dry
step 2: sand with 400 grit paper
step 3: wash, dry, degrease, dry
step 4: prime
step 5: sand with 600 grit paper
step 6: another coat of primer
step 7: sand again with 600 grit
QUESTION ! should i let the primer completely dry ( like 3 hours ) between coats, or should i just lay it down after it fllashes ( sticky to the touch ) ?????
step 8: lay down first 2 coats of paint
step 9: wet sand with 800 grit
step 10: lay down another 2 coats
step 11: wet sand with 800 grit again
step 12: do final coat of paint
step 13: wet sand with 1000, 1200, and 1500 grit
QUESTION ! should i use a clear ? color is going to be red
step 15: spray 1st coat of clear
step 16: wet sand with 1000 grit
step 17: spray 2nd coat of clear
step 18: sand with 1500 grit
step 19: compound
step 20: wax

sound like that'll turn out good?

i know im not helping with your question... but why invest all this time into a rattle can job when you can just get it painted or buy an air compressor/gun off craigslist and learn how to really paint

if you want it rattle canned. spray right over your old paint. no sanding. no prep. its alot easier to remove once you relize how stupid you were...
spray paint sucks.

i just got done spraying my friends blazer last night. we borrowed a friends air compressor and picked up a spray gun for $15 bucks. we used rustoleum gloss white and it came out very nice, we still need to wetsand it. this would be cheeper than buying 20 million cans of spray paint. we used 2 1/2 cans to paint a whole truck with a topper.
