My 1995 Nissan Hardbody XE with 183,000 :mike miles has a initial rattle at start up. It goes away within 2-3 seconds. If the truck sits for a length of time it might last 5 seconds. I have been doing my research and think that it is time timing chain. Does this sound correct?

Thanks for all your help.

Timing chain guides are worn.
When I did mine, the chain was in A1 shape but the guides were missing pieces.
And replace soon.
If not the chain will wear thru the back of the timing cover.
Right behind the water pump and a flood of coolant will be introduced to the oiling system.

Napas kit has the chain, both guides, tensioner, the crank and cam gears.

I found both times that I only needed both guides.
Both gears and chain were fine to re-use.
The tensioner should be replaced.
On my 4x4, the chain wore the end of the tensioner keeping the piston locked in the housing.
You'll need the timing chain cover gasket kit.
And an oil pan gasket or rtv.
It's a good time to replace the water pump too.
See my other threads for more details.
