Recently, I had a mysterious rattle at about 3000rpms. It sounded like my rusty heats shields did before I got my new custom exhaust. After doing a search I found a few other posts containing the same issue. I'm making a new post in case someone does a search for this topic.

I fixed my rattle at 3000rpms. After thoroughly checking my exhaust, my belts, my alternator bolts, and reading up on transmission troubleshooting, I decided to check my oil. It was low and it took 2 quarts! That immediately took care of the rattle.

I didn't think to check it before, because I always get my oil changed at Valvoline every three months.

During the 15 years and 230,000 miles that I've been driving my beloved '91 240sx, it's never been low on oil. I'm keeping my eye on it.

Check your oil pressure sending unit, located on the oil filter pedestal. Those are notorious for leaking oil (i just changed mine for the first time).

wow... 2 quarts down outta the full capacity of 3.75 quarts....

did they screw up & not put enough oil?

notice any oil leaks as JNM stated? or around any of the seals in the engine bay?

black soot outta the tailpipe? blue smoke?

i'm reaching 210k on my car & will now check levels weekly... just a good thing to do.
