I've been running the VH41 in the Patrol for just on 12 months now and it has developed a rattle at 1900 RPM. My first thoughts wer bearings but the noise would be constant throughout the range with some knocking at idle. It seems to be worst at cruising speed but clears if you put your foot down or drop off the revs. I have run ECU talk and Conzult and both are giving me a fault code for the knock sensors.... could this be the cause?

Any other ideas or similar exeriences/fixes??

I would guess that the knock sensor is just picking up the rattle you are hearing.
Do you have a recording of the sound?

Don't have a recording but it sounds very similar to "valve bounce" you sometimes get on a gas engine when the timing is out. unless you know it, it's hard to explain. I pulled the plenum off yesterday to inspect the KS and they are definitely shot. They've suffered from serious heat exposure by the looks. Bakelite (sp) has not desintergrated but it has deformed
