Hey guys,I have been hearing this weird rattle noise when I accelerate kind of like something is lose I dont know what it is?? if you have any ideas please share... also when I put the car in Reverse, and I back up I hear a clicking noise when I turn the steering wheel. Today I had the car in R and with out moving just moved the wheel from right to left, and heard some big clicking noises. I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Sounds like your CV joints.

Take this advice from someone who's seen too many people get ripped off.

If you're handy and have help, do it yourself. If not, shop around to see what kind of prices you can get.

Replace the entire axle, not just the joint. Remanufactured axles cost around $50-$60. They usually have a core charge (they want your originals and get a deposit for them) and a 1 year warranty.

Having someone do it shouldn't cost more than $150 per side. It could be less, but that depends on who you go to.

Total cost for both sides should be arounf $400 if you pay someone to do it.

Do a search for CV joints, Axles...etc and you'll find lots of useful info. Quite a few of us have replaced our recently.

Look for "torn boots" under your car behind the wheel.

They are black rubber covers for the ball bearings in a cage and thesecovers might be torn

Grease could be coming out or the grease has already come out

It is dangerous to drive your car too long like that

As a matter of fact I replaced one CV joint on my 1995 Maxima Monday.

It was about $200, $100 for the joint and $100 for labor. I sawthe torn boot on my drivers side and grease was all over the place.

I helped change out one before but didnt have the tools my buddyhas so my mechanic did it. Some people think its real easy but I preferto have a helper hold that joint in the transmission while putting the otherend back into the axle hole.

You definitly need to look at the shop manual this website has available
