well, my question to the vert gods here on nico is how rare is this car? i've had my mechanic tell me its very rare and hold on to it. i have yet to see another one on the street. so how many were made? i heard somewhere only 3000. correct me if im wrong. also were their any manual verts made from the factory or what?

Great questions!

We're currently researching that very topic... More than 3K were made, but few remain. It WILL be a collectible, no doubt, so I'd think twice about radical mods (I intend to pick up a stock one to put in storage).

No manuals ever from the factory...

We have a TON of verts here on the forum though!

It's really hard to get number for total production... I have a file open with Nissan North America... This lady is trying to find out the info for me... File #5231536KAI It's been a few weeks now... she called me once to say that she was having a hard time finding anything... so I'm guessing she's forgotten about me by now.

My guesses...I would guess somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 total sold. How many of those are still on the road....? I would venture a guess at 2,000 max! I know of 4 in Green Bay alone. I'm not saying there everywhere, but they are around. At any given time I bet I could find 50 for sale nationwide.

As for the auto vs. manual.... I have a friend who was a finance manager and sales manager for a couple Nissan dealerships in SoCal in the early - mid 90's. He loves my car! We got to talking one day... he told me that he had a demo car for about 3 months late in 1991. That was a program car for Nissan dealers to help them get pumped about selling the 'vert. He said it was a 5 spd. He says they only made 6 of them... 1 for each top dealer in SoCal.

Other than word of mouth... I don't know if there is any way to prove this.

So, I would say that no manuals were ever sold directly to the public... but a few were made for demo/test purposes.

I would also LOVE to pick up a nice pristine one just to keep in a garage. I really need a garage to store cars in... I just got a lead on a nice Datson 510 with no rust that I want to snag. Uggghhh I need more money and more space.

Well, get them ALL on 240sxConvertible.com!

We'll be working on a database soon, hopefully we can start cataloguing all remaining verts by year, VIN, location.

Seth (or anyone else) wanna head up this project?

Greg,

I would be happy to help out. If you want to email me with more info... ie, what to do, how to do it, etc...

How strange is it that -as rare as these cars may be- that there is another, identical white '93 'vert within two blocks of my house?

Other than that...I couldn't tell you the last time I saw one in the flesh, around here.

I'm thinking we start off with an Excel spreadsheet with basic info: Owner's name, screen name, VIN, color, year, etc.

We can have everyone chime in and one person (you, haha) can compile it.

I'll even put a button on the 240sxConvertible.com homepage for the "240sx Vert Database Project" that links to the thread.

Then, we can hit up all the other forums, making sure non-NICO people chime in as well.

I'll bet we can cover a lot of the remaining verts within a year's time.

I have seen 4 in the Huntsville, AL area. One is red, just like mine and in similar shape. Any other Huntsvegas vert folks here?

How about doing everything in Microsoft Access? I deal with databases all day long.

VIN, Year, Color, Owner Name, Screenname, Motor type, Modifications list, City, State, and email address (optional).

I just set it up real quick, and whenever you want, you can start having people sending them either via email at [email protected], or by way of posting in a thread on the forum.

Thanks,

Donald

easy enough to add. just another field. The only problem with that is that mileage changes on a pretty constant basis.

sounds like a good idea. as i recall but this was a few years back. i seen someone selling a black one on 441 for the local guys that know where that is. i also remember when i was a youngin someone in my neighborhood had one just sitting in there driveway black one never moved. its gone now but for some odd reason i remember that. and the autotrader i recently looked it up, there is a pristine one in miami selling for $ 4,500 but that would be great to get this project going i would definetly like to see how many are left in the USA

Donald, can you and Seth (Eikon) work together on this?

If you'll create a thread calling for info, I'll link it on the 240sxConvertble.com homepage.

I just emailed Donald.

He and I will exchange a couple of emails and make sure we are on the same page. Then I can create a thread asking for info to sign up/register.

Can we get some NICO cards made up? Something unique (but very inexpensive) that we can send out to each person that registers. Like a business card or small sticker that signifies membership or inclusion in the 240sx 'vert registry. Something that we can use to "tag" new members... have the website url on it so that they can get there to sign up.

well - you can collect the mileage recorded at registry. That would never change. Question: Why not just port this to a sql server table and create an interface on the site somewhere to pull the info? That ....might be useful..i dunno. Just a thought.

I can chip in for the cards too. Btw, these sites: http://www.spoofee.com and http://www.bensbargains.net

At times, they list deals for getting free business cards (alot of them). I check them daily, so if I see the link appear - I'll post it here.

I live in a small town (3000 people) and theres another red vert, but other than that I've only seen 6 or so of them in Massachusetts, and one perfect white one in a parking garage in Providence. I actually parked my car, got out and took a few side by side pics, lol.

I have mine, one of my friends had one, I know of one in a junkyard, one guy on craigslist was looking for a top, and I've seen probably 5 or 6 here in houston. I think they made around 20,000 and I think a ton of them are still on the roads. You are talking about a car that all of us are seeing on a pretty regular basis. Its not a toyota camry or anything but I don't think they are super rare.

I agree with you Top Secret... These are not like the 326hardtop twin turbo mkiv supras. But they are rare enough.

We'll never get them all... we may never get more than 25%... but we'll get enough to make a pretty big dent.

We'll be able to analyze vin numbers to help figure out production totals.

Heck, just having a legit website that is searching and registering these vehicles will probably help increase resale value. Anytime you begin to recognize and further public awareness of a limit edition product, that increases demand... That benefit's all of us.

I think it's a very worthwhile project.

Has anyone tried contacting the place in MO that did the conversions? Kar Kraft or American Sun Roof or something like that? If they're still in business you'd think they'd have easy access to production stats, just to keep on file for liability or recalls.

What about Carfax? They seems to have all the records... they must be able to compile a list of VIN's for a specific model? Maybe for a fee?

I'll give it a shot.

CARFAX Consumer Affairs' business hours are 9AM to 6PM Monday to Friday Eastern time. In most cases you will receive a response within 8 hours - with the exception of evenings and weekends. Any messages received after 6PM will be addressed the next business day.

Please note: the reply from CARFAX will be sent from the email address of "[email protected]". Please modify any filters on your email box so you are able to receive messages from this address.
We'll see what happens... hopefully they will get back to me. Pretty soon we'll have enough entries and info to start decoding the information.

Also... for anyone who hasn't seen this... AZ-Zbum is a nico member, friends with Greg I believe... He put together this fantastic website for Z31 and Z32's. (300zx by the way)http://www.az-zbum.com/

His Z31 and Z32 registries are the model that I think we are shooting to acheive.
