Yesterday my local JY let me know they had a 94 Q45a. It was raining so I let it lie. Went out today to take a look and it looks as if it had been attacked by animals! The plenum is hanging, fuel pump, ECU, TCU, FPCU, Bose Amps, door switches, brakes gone, the interior dash is torn out, trunk, fuses, etc... 1 day in the rain!

Anyway, there are some things like the sway bars left. I know there's a difference in the Q45t sway bar and the Q45a sway bar, but is it enough to go to the trouble to switch?

I was in my suit and mainly checking for a black interior so I couldn't do anything.

Must have been a motor problem, btw as the interior and exterior is not too bad for a JY. It was that pretty deep red color. Oh and it had the infamous Sony 10 disc changer.

Yes, the t bar is a bit better than nothing. If you don't have a t model, grab the front bar (1 mm less in diameter) also, and all links and bushing brackets. Get new rubber form Joe.

What year?

A T rear bar is ~ 12 pounds of stiffness per 1" of body roll, whereas the Active rear bar is ~~ 40 pounds per inch of body roll.

This must be compare in the light of the rear springs at 123 pounds per inch.

T bar increases rear stiffness by 9.8% while A bar is 32.5%.

Most cannot feel a 10% change, while all can feel a 33% change..........which reduces peak rear body roll by 3/4" vs no rear bar.

What gets interesting is the the progressive Eibach REAR springs which at peak are roughly the same as the Active rear bar or 35% stiffer after 3" of body roll.

Obviously there are many choices in redesigning the rear stiffness to fit the tires and the weather PLUS the skill of the DRIVER [or lack thereof].

The bulh of better handling in the ACTIVE comes from the sway bar changes not the active system which only fools driver by lack of body roll. The problem is the camber doesn't gain negative since the body doesn't roll in an active

Dennis,

I'm glad you chimed in. So....go get the A bar - it should be 20% better eh?

I've got the T bar and all new rubber. Shouldn't be that hard to change out. Between the T bar and Jeff Williams's FSTB the Q corners alot better. There's this little stretch of road that I love to drive now!

This is first time I've read this. Very interesting, Dennis. I no longer desire an A. I always thought my Qs handled great-- this is why. Both have A rear bars and FSTBs. In fact, its why I sold the 540i. The Qs are stiffer and feel more sporty.

The owners who drive restored a models prefer them. Those that don't have them usually have never ridden in one like yours truly.

I'll check the paint, grill and hood. What other parts of a "A" would people be willing to buy?

Dan, if the console is black as i suspect it would be--i'd be interested in the 4 section switch panel near center armrest (two heated seats, active switch, tcs switch).

you know the sway bar bushings are different between the 't' and 'a', right?

I think the rear deck is about $25. I'm not sure what S&H would from Birmingham to you.

It does have that 4 section switch panel, but it's tan. If it had been black I'd have been a happy man!!

No cover? Tell them $15 for all unless they can show it works. Thanks.

You're talking about the rear deck with the speaker covers, cloth, tail light, etc. Right?

No, the CD deck, mounting brackets (3 bolts) and it's cover.

Would be interesting if has the rear parcel shelf in tan wihtout the CHMBL, but no idea how to ship. I would need the harness to the spoiler mounted CHMBL and the controller also. Too hard to ship.

I have replaced my Q45 'T' bar with an 'A' bar.

That extra 4mm does make the noticeable difference just driving straight.

Fishtails easier... sometimes without warning. If you have the keen eye then you may notice a slight camber change.

It's in the pull-a-part. When you say recently, you mean in the last few months. They get picked over in a day or two. It's the obscure stuff that's left.
