I went to remove the oil filter from my new long block today and I was kind of confused with what i found.

This is what i would have expected to see:

But this is what i found:

Those lines running out of the top look like coolant lines? Is it some type of mini oil cooler or coolant warmer? LOL

It's a sign this is the later model intercooled S13 engine. Most jap-import engines to Australia are that variety.

They are water lines, and it is an oil cooler.

Cheers,Chris

Well that went south real fast. LOL I dug up a couple old threads and found out some more info about them. Not really anything special basically. Also one dude claimed his was leaking coolant into his oil because of an internal leak. A) is the even possible? I would think that nissan would have designed it so that the coolant and oil had totally separately cast passage ways. & B) Is it a very common problem? Should i switch back to the none oil cooled filter mount?

So what your saying is that this doesn't compare to the "JDM Goodie" i found on the 13BT I had imported?

That was about a year or so ago. I got it for $900 locally. No transmission or anything.

yeah i had one on my engine but i got rid of it, well bypassed the lines, that lil hose is terrible to hook back once you have the engine in, replace those b4 you put it back in. :-)
