While I was on the way to my parent's house for dinner on Sunday, a lady turning out of a shopping center smacked into the right front fender of my beater. The police officer called it failure to yield to on-coming traffic, her fault. Well, her fault totalled the car I've been driving while building up the engine in the 240SX. The totalled BMW will probably be worth about $3000 at most.

In the meantime, the 240 has the recently rebuilt KA24DE with the full on kgmm / bilstein / cusco drift setup. I've driven it, and it's freakin harsh. I'm gonna have to do the ricer thing that i hate the most... go sideways over speed bumps and into driveways. On the bright side of things, I know what I'm going to do for smog now. =)

Do any of you guys have tips for speeding up other people's insurance companies? I only have liability, but the other person is at fault. I have the 240 to drive around for now, but race suspensions on the LA freeway system suck!!

if it has gone on for too long, id suggest calling your insurance company and telling them your situation. If that doesnt work, call her's and explain the situation. I would think that someone could help you out..

Seriously, insurance companies are notoriously slow. There isn't much you can do to speed them up. If you had an attorney, maybe, but remember that they have a battalion of them. You'll probably have to just be patient and wait for your settlement.

As far as your suspension goes, if it's really that killer, you don't have to worry about being confused with a ricer, IMO.

Good luck!

Just keep calling that lady's insurance company and bug them. Usually, they'll speed up the claim process if they find you annoying enough. However, they might instead, intentionally lag on doing your claim because you are annoying. Hopefully, they'll speed it up.

Just wondering, what have you decided on about the smog?

I'll be driving around with the KA24DE while the insurance company does it's thing. Since the stock engine will be in the car, I will get it smogged as is. It looked good on the machine at the garage, as far as the levels go. All the smog equipment is on the engine... so it's all good.

edit: The car passed smog today, so I registered it, got the tags, and got insurance put on it. My Allstate agent was pretty cool / dumb because, she just let me add a laundry list of the suspension parts that I had on there. I was so tempted to embellish a little bit, but didn't...

Rice is going over the speedbump sideways cus you have cut springs and dont wanna smash off your unpainted side skirts. You're just fine. BTW sorry about your beater gettin smashed..
