here is a picture of a JDM nissan leopard (j30 eqiv) with the optional V8. i have a bunch of japanese digrams and such of the suspension, but they are too big to post with the "attach file" option...i can research posting them more if anyone has interest. i also found higher res picts of the custom JDM j30 with the single turbo and the 5 speed transmission.

just had a forced induction idea for the J30 while reading though my old z31 300zx manual. anyone think we could just use the wraparound manifolds from that car and a single, larger turbocharger positioned on the pass. side? probably not worth it without CR change as always...just an idea

JDM had the V8 along with the V8 option. JDM had an available lower front lip spoiler, and then there is the obvious steering wheel on the right side. The 5 speed conversion could be done on a left- hand driver as well, the hardest part would be fitting the clutch master cylinder. (either remove cruise control, or put it in the wheel well. a custom driveshaft would also be needed, but the transmission would bolt right up to the engine. (using a NA 300zx flywheel and transmission).

i don't like the shifter or the interior color combo..it's hideous but the idea is awesome and fairly feasible.

Hey Eswift, you seem to have all this stuff researched and thought out. Why don't you do it? either motor swap or m/t conversion.

yes, the interior on that J30 is rather thrown together with a bastard assortment of faux leathers and cloth.

mayhem, ive been researching and pooling resources for a conversion since ive owned the car, and now that my extended warranty will be up at 100k miles, its time to get dirty.

current plans include getting in contact with craig channer (used a powerdyne supercharger in a NA Z, care of AC removal) so i can see if he has any reccomendations after running such a setup for a few years. Hopefully, component purchases will begin this season. The transmission will wait, because if my auto holds up after engine mods, i will install that shift-at-will system (tiptronic-esque).

i opted against the twin turbocharger setup because of the extreme cost for all the custom fabrication.

the v8 conversion was very tempting for a while, but i am leary of all the quirks i might find in a used Q engine.

for those interested: here is a link to a page with pics/dyno info on that powerdyne setup:

i was thinking about getting a hold of one of those 4.1 v8's. problem would be servicing it in the future..parts would be REAL hard to come by.

So this isn't the same motor as the smaller VH41-DE that was in the 97 and up Q"45"? If it were then parts would be no problem.

I forgot to mention that it also looks like one of those "Alien" larva got ahold of this engine, too.

yeah, i am pretty sure that spider you see on the engine is just like the Qships with the VH41. i am sure Q45tech has the definitive answer, but i do believe the engine is identical to those on the Qs at some point...just a matter of a small decal and possibly some add-on emissions gagetry.

these engines pop up on ebay every few weeks....but i would not recommend sourcing a grey market engine with questionable condition and mileage.

I think the 97+ Q's have a very different plenum and exhaust manifold design than this one... I've seen one of these engines on eBay, but it was in pretty bad shape. They looked very similar... would a standard 4.5 from a 90-96 fit in a J30? Lot's better parts potential...

chris....nice! yeah i think that is the site i got the v8 pic from a few years back...the bookmark got lost in the shuffle here somewhere...

i found it most interesting how infiniti emblems are hot for the aftermarket in japan, while here everyone throws toyota soarer badges on lexus sc300's here....i guess thats just how it works out!

these V8 leopard pictures are especially dangerous...because i am sure the conversion wouldnt be all that hard, as far as conversions go. it would be relatively bolt-in....

nice links in any case...

chin spoilers, clear side indicators, hydraulics, GTR/brembo brake kit, weird antennas out of front bumper, custom exhausts....how come we cant get this kind of aftermarket treatment??

i seen the front lip spoiler to a long with a few different front grills. i thought it looked good. it was the only body kit option i seen through all those pics. they had some WEIRD clear side markers that I would pass on. I love the massive rubber they're all putting on the rear!

yeah, some of these guys sure are running huge rubbers and wheels, especially out back. i have a friend who knows some japanese, maybe i will be able to get him to translate some of this over the holidays. my favourite is that brembo brake upgrade. i wonder if it is the same kits that brembo offers for the Q45....?

Nissan produced one 4.1l V8 found in the the JDM Cima and the second generation Q45. This is likely the 8 banger that appeared in the J Ferie. If this is indeed the case, then parts shouldn't be a problem for this reliable motor. The J"30"t cries out for 2 more cylinders. The VG30DE is good but.... J"40"t. Man....

Emmissions and electrics could be challenges but the big question is LHD. Would power steering be possible due to possible configuration problems? Trannies and shafts are certainly doable.
