What does the ground wire that connects to the left bolt that goes into the differential cover and then connects to the subframe do?

Also there is a ground that is on the right frame rail (yeah I know unibody car) what does it connect to? On my car it was dangling loose till some moron at a exhaust shop yanked it off and said it wasn't needed.

Do 1990-1993 Q45's have a aluminum protector that goes around the connectors part of the Automatic Transmission (A/T)?

From the factory most Auto manufactures ground the exhaust and any thing that could possibly carry electro-static on most vehicles with ECU/ECM/BCM, or any electronic modules. It's cheap insurance.

I'm sure the guy at the muffler shop has an Automotive Engineering degree, and knows all about ESD. He's probably a specialist in the "yanking" dept.

Will your car run without them? Sure. Is it worth keeping stuff well-grounded on a vehicle that is designed for it? Probably.

Your car is just one big resistor grounding to the battery.

I think I found the Nissan part number for the A/T connector shield. But does anyone with a mint/unmolested Q have any pictures of the undercarriage with the ground wire in question?

Well there are three Bonding wires on the 1990-2001 Q45. One is Muffler to body, Engine to Body and Differential to body. They are ~$13 each from the dealer. Thanks for the hint Turbon8er! I found these by accident in Nissan FAST.
