ok i thought i would share this with ya'll

I went this Friday and bought a new Compressor Regulator valve from the local compressor shop, to try out a new manual boost controller, after installing, which took exactly 5 mins.. i went to my local long clear road to test/tune, it was VERY sensitive, so it took a lil while, but then i got it to make 15psi safe.. so i rocked that whole weekend.

the i heard there was street class racing this sunday at our drag strip..

reached there too early and was the first car to run (alone) which was good, got to tryout the car without any presure.. car ran 15spi, wheel spinin first and some in 2nd, i decided to up the boost,

as i came back down the pit and poped my hood to up the boost a guy with a blue corolla with a mod'd 3SGTE came up and wanted to run so i said ok, and ran him at about 16psi, he beat me by about 1/2 car, i knew i had a better launch left and i was determind to up the boost and beat this car, (he runs 13's on street tires and LOW 13's-12's on slicks, it was a very good race while we were on street tires)

so i upped the boost to about 22psi and went for a solo run again, too much wheel spin and i realised my injectors were porbably MAXED out backed off as i threw second and spootted the boost gauge going hwere it shouldnt,,, down the boost to ~18-19psi after a couple more solo test runs..

lined up with the 3SGTE corolla again, we launched together, by the end of first i was a clear car length ahead, shift_second, tires and the car just squats and i really feel big boost all the way to 8000rpm where i glance at the boost controller and its hovering on ~20psi (YIKES) shift_third, i get a little wheel spin, i see the corolla has stopped scrambling its' FWD tires and has hooked up, he's comming and has either punched NOS or flicked on high boost, he jumps from a car behind to right next to me, i rip a car lengh on him till the end of third at 8500rpm and for i think the first time in a 1/4, had to throw 4th, i got him by about a car at the end. 13.4 @ 114 to a 13.6 a very good race, a guy said he got it on tape and i would love to see it as i have never seen my car run this good, he wanted to run again, and was pulling out his slicks, haha i laughed and wanted to leave a winner... and i had a party to attend he was shocked when he realised it was a CA18, he thought it was a mod'd SR... told me when i get some slicks we have to run again - definately..

it felt GREAT, the car didnt overheat, no hickups, perfect, then drove bout 45mins back home on full boost, heheh.. then went to a beach party to gape at chicks in bikinis, cant go wrong, SUPER sunday !!!

hope you enjoyed, i'll do my best to track down that vid..

dyno shoot out this weekend, i know i will not come close to winning, but will be happy to lay down bout 350whp at 18-20psi

First of all, I would like to say 'Thanks' for sharing your adventures with this group. The CA forum lacks this kind of participation and it's nice to see some members are interested in a little fun on the drag stip as opposed to always working on the dang car. I was looking like a little eager kid reading through your story to get to the next event and it sounds like your car is right on spot to be a mid to low 12sec car with some slicks and maybe some suspension tuning. All in all, great run/great story and can't wait to see what you do on the dyno.

Congrats on the great run! Get that vid up ASAP! I'm hoping I get my car running in time to get it to the track this year so I can get some video run on it.

what tips have you guys got for me?

I'm just getting into drag racing myself Running around 400 hp and my best time so far 13.51 @ 115. my highest terminal so far is 119. I have some BF goodrich 275/50/15 drag radials which I use with standard rear shocks/springs. I have all adjustable rear suspension bars. What would be the best settings for camber/castor/toe for dragging??

Any advice appreciated

400hp should be way faster than a 13.5. Either your HP is off, or you need to work on your launch. What is your 60ft like? R/T's?

defiantely sounds like you are bogging on the line or something.. your 60' would say allot..

BUT

i THINK i may have grenaded my engine,

20psi - destroying a EVO 5 comming home from a party, revving to 8500+rpm, sounds like a hammer beating on my eninge (but ony at idle and not really in time with teh revs), a cam gear MAY have jumped a couple teeth and the valves are hitting the pistons, but sounds like bearings - BUT much louder than what i have heard before i almost thought a broke a cam or something.. the power steering belt busted off too, i totoally destroyed the evo though... i think i may be foreced to put back in the CA19DET engine now..

R/T's have not been taken into account as all the runs I have done have been just qualifing runs. 60ft is about 2.3 secs.

I know these times suck, but as I say I am just starting to learn I need alot more practice.

Need to sort my engine again as I killed the big ends (rod bearings) at my last outing

I've never been into 1/4 dragging but from what I've read suspension setup makes all the difference. If you can figure out how much squat you get on launch and make sure camber is 0 deg under that load. Also get as much squat as you can, soft springs and a raised front end.

Raised front end?

when I change from the coilovers I run on the road to the standard shock/springs I get a fair amount of static positive camber

seems to squat quite well as I launch

i know, i was on street tires and the track is pooo.. so i was having crazy wheel spin from 1st-3rd.. i am sure with slick my trap speeds will drop and hopefully my 1/4 mile times too... i am guessing about 350whp now with the current set up, maybe a tiney bit more, but injectors are my porblem now, i ma maxing out teh 550's. i am buying a LM1 this weekend so i'll tune it out a bit more and get a Dyno next week..

The stuff from Innovate is aweseome. You'll love it, I promise. I've got the LC-1 and it's great. Listen to them though when they say to not put it any closer than 6" to the turbo. I've got mine about 1.5' away and it's fine now.
