Every time I go to work on my car, I have to devise a way to get the car high enough to even fit the jack under it... usually driving up on to a 2x4 or something.

Anyway, whenever I try to use ramps, my front bumper always seems to hit them (and push them). So again, I have to use wood or something to extend the ramp a little bit. Does anyone have any suggestions for a low-profile ramp? I don't really need it to raise the vehicle so much for me to get under it, I just want it to raise it enough to get the jack under it easily, without hitting my damn bumper.

I was looking at these: http://shop.advanceautoparts.c...2____

I called the local CarQuest, and they said they sell normal ramps for $40, and then you can also buy extenders, for another $40... which I thought was kinda steep.

Hell, if nothing comes up, I might just make a set of my own.

make your own.

just use some staggered boards stacked on top of each other.

thankfully, right now my low profile jack will slide under my Civic.

It really is amazing what some companies charge. If I were you I would just buy some wood, cut a long piece then cut a smaller one... nail or glue them together.

Bonus points if you can chamfer the long board so it doesn't get pushed when the wheel tries to climb up, but if you use like inch think you shouldn't really have to.

I suggest a couple pieces of wood and some cinder blocks.

My car wouldn't fit on my ramps so i just used some wood like someone else said, the wood lifted the car the extra couple inches clearance i needed. It did take me like 6 damn tries though as i was in a fwd and it kept grabbing and spitting the wood lol.

Race Ramps Trak Jax do exactly what you want, and they won't slide. I use them and while they weren't cheap, they work great. :dblthumb:

yeah the staggered boards are what we use at the marina... we can change the oil on our trucks or forklifts with the same set...

and they stack nicely in a corner so it looks like a pile of wood.. :)

Make some out wood. I suggest 2x4 or 2x8 with angled pieces (if you can do it) if not just use a miter box and make the sharpest angle you can

Bump stop edit

Don't buy these. I'm about 95% sure we have those exact ramps (if not, some exactly like them) and I can barely get my 3G Eclipse with the stock ride height up on them. There is no way you're gonna get a 240 on those without scraping the bumper.

You were 12 once right? You probably made ramps out of random wood at some point right? It's pretty easy to make your own.

My friends in my automotive class usually just ride up onto 2x4s and we're able to get the lift arms under the car. I suppose either your car is lower or your jack is larger.

I have these:

http://www.discountramps.com/plastic_car_ramps.htm

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-COMP ... 166wt_1162

If you can't afford those, you don't need a car.

EDIT: James, the ones you linked in your OP are crap. Too steep.

my old man and i always say the same thing when we see those trucks. it's not only the landing, it's the amount of bucking that would happen on the way up the ramps that will f*** up your flight pattern. which will in turn determine your landing. yeah, it's pretty much just the landing part lol.

Unless physics laws have changed drastically in the last 5-10 years, there's no need to worry. You will land.
