Hey,

I was thinking...if the s13 chassis is so well suited to drift racing...requiring good/neutral balance...wouldn't that make it a good off-road/rally racing car?

I'm just asking cause it would be different!!!

Anyone know of any 240 rally cars, or any companies that make off-road suspension stuff that could be used to build a rally 240???

Just a thought...:)Sean

I really don't think it would be that good, but I don't know too much about rally anyway.

Minor detail, RWD doesn't do too well in mud.

thats true, but weren't all the group n cars of the early 90's rwd???

granted they stopped group n cause of the danger but whatever:)

i guess maybe not mud courses but i know that there were tons of rally cars of the 80's running RWD...

SCC had a rwd datsun rally

What is group n cause?

I think you would have better luck with an old altima or old VW Golf

yeah i know if i was going to really build a dedicated rally car i would start with an awd platform...subaru or audi most likely...

i had an audi a6 quattro before the 240 so i can vouch for their mudhandling abilities..it had a locking center diff. how cool is that! never got stuck!

I just was thinking that rally cars rule and i already have a 240 :) That and there is an abundance of dirt roads near me which are waaaay fun to fly down w/ rwd!!!

oh i was saying they stopped "group n" rally racing BECAUSE of the danger of it..i don't know exactly what was dangerous just that many of the cars were rwd at the time

hey a 510 use to be a rally car. there are all kinds of rally cars out there, and just about anything can be made into one. the 240 shears alot with the hardbody, so maybe just pull its trany and center dif and make a custom 4wd 240sx.

My friend and I are looking into making a custom zuki 2 door sidekick rally/drag car, but we are still trying to decide on an engine/drive train. i think Sunny GTi-R sr20 with the awd transmission, make a custom drive shaft to the back axle, and some custom suspention work up front, and there you go, a 300+ hp Sidekick, with a wieght of less then 2200lbs, it would be one fast mother. but my friend thinks ford 2.3i 4 with ranger transmission/centerdif, or maybe coswarth engine (heres to wishing)

This is a bit late in coming but... Nissan's rally car in the mid eighties was the 240RS S12, powered by a FJ24E. It was reasonably successful but didn't have the traction of the 4WD cars in the same class.

I freakin' love watching rally. I never miss a WRC program on the Speed Channel. :)

you can definately make a 240sx into a rally car, lots of rally cars have been RWD. It would be harder to handle than an AWD car but it could work. Someone was just selling their '93 Supra TT rally car on ebay about a month ago. That thing was amazing :)

The problem I see for the 240 in a rally course is that the front suspension travel is rather short.

Gots a 240 now

Yeah, you'd definitely need to up the suspension travel, but it'd be do-able with enough $$ just like everything else, but realistically speaking, it could probably be done pretty cheaply. Order some back-issues of SCC with "Project Rally Beater" and see what translates.
