Anyone have a bad experience using Rain X? I'm finding it works great for a few weeks but my wiper performance degrades after a while. Does the "wax" accumulate on the wiper blades? Seems to.....

I'm replacing wiper blades this week and need to decide if I should keep using Rain X or not.

Anyone have a bad experience using Rain X?Yep! Bought a used car that always had wierd areas on it that the wipers wouldn't clear. My buddies at the glass shop said someone used Rain X on it in the past. I think they gave me some miracle shower door cleaner to get it off. I would stay away.

Cheers, alan

I love the stuff... You have to apply it often (i usually do it after every wash) but it only takes like 5 mins to do so I see no loss.....

As long as you have decent wiper blades there shouldnt be a reason RainX should interfere with anything...

It works great but every time I've use it the wipers start to grab and causes a major annoyance. Probably if you treat it often enough you would never use the wipers anyway!

Use s quality polish on your windows and you will have no problems, dont use wax as it leaves a buildup, waterbeads off just perfect, and ice and snow as well dont really stick.

Wes do the whole windsheild and the next time it rains your gonna be very happy, just dont use waxor a polish that has oils in it, Ziano works great on glass.

RainX is bad news on old, filmy, microscopically pitted glass.

Buy a new windshield and THEN apply 3 RainX treatments - No need for wipers, even in the hardest rain.

I've used it for years... to echo everyone else here it works great but needs re-application frequently. I just tried the PPG Aquapel that's supposed to last much longer - but I'm not sure if I applied it correctly. My first impression is that it's not as good as Rain-X, but that may be from poor application. I'll try to find someone who can copy the instructions for me and then buy more on eBay or somewhere.

That should work perfect, everytime I wash any of my vehicles I polish all outside glass.

Thanks everyone..... I think I'll get my new OEM wiper blade inserts and use up the rest of the Rain X on the side & rear windows. The "gee-wow" effect will last longer on those windows, and no wiper blades to rub it off!

Rain-X is awesome! First you have to clean the windshield with fast enamel reducer (very carefully! dont get any on the paint). Make a cloth damp w/ reducer - then rub, dry with a clean rag after a few seconds. Remove the haze, you'll see it in the light from the side. Then clean with a reg. glass cleaner. Rain -X must cover the entire surface (see second post) you can see the bare spots in the light. I remove the haze with a little glass cleaner (and rag) after about 15 mins. The Rain-X and Teflon blade combo is GREAT lasts for months. -Squee

Rain-X rocks -- even its cheap knockoffs are great, which is what I use on the Q and the MPV. Used Rain-X on the 14 year old Mazda 929 too, pits and film and all. Lasts about half a year, and I havent had issues on old crappy windshields either, or any problems with leaving a residue on wiper blades.

I've used Rain-X in the past and in general I like it. What I dont like is the first rain storm after aplication. It seems to streak too much and if your driving at night, those streaks make it too hard to see. As far as never useing you wipers, my cousin had an old Saab with the rounded winshield and it worked great. With the windsheild shaped like that, the air pushed everything off. Flatter windsheilds not as well. The one thing thats a pain is how much you have to buff to get rid of the fog it leaves on your glass. I was in the store the other day and I saw a windshield washer fluid with Rain-X in it. I wonder how it works. Has anyone ever used this?

The streaking is from not using a glass cleaner after it dries, if you try to buff it off dry -that is what happens. -squee

I do the final buff with just water and a cloth... Seems to work well. You definatley need to do something after the application to remove the hazing and streaking.

The Castrol stuff blows away Rain X. I use it with premium quality Bosch blades and have never, ever had a problem.

I'm using the Castrol rainguard but I don't think I am applying it correctly. Sopdadope how are you applying the stuff and how often.

Thanks
