Hey guys,
I'm new to the Z scene and figured this is my best bet to get answers from true Z enthusiasts. Here's the deal, I recently purchased a 5spd 1990 300zx NA and soon found out tht a car wash or quick rain storm causes my car to not idle correctly and eventually bog down to a complete stall. I recently got a diagnostic at a local nissan shop and was quick to find out that cylinder #4 is dead due to a bad injector, but for some reason they didn't wanna even begin to search for the core problem the car is having with water. Any input at all is a huge help.

Greatly appreciated,
Nico

Maybe you are sucking air into the engine? Have you converted your air box to a single inlet?

It's a single K&n intake but if the car is sitting during rain, it will do it during cold start, no moisture could have gotten into the intake head

Are they sure the injector is bad, or just a bad connection?
The connector seal boots are shot on most of these old Zs, and the contacts in the connectors get corroded. Moisture can definitely get in there.
There can be problems with any of the connectors, not just injectors.
The engine temp one is often corroded and giving false signals to the ECM.

Is there any easy way to check? The shop was pretty set on diagnosing a dead injector. They wanted $600 for parts and 4.2 hours of labor installing 1 injector. Getting all cylinders to fire is definitely on top of my list of things to do but I'm kinda concerned about this whole wet weather no driving thing since I need to make it to work this week with rain in the forecast lol

With the engine idling listen to the injector with a stethoscope or a long screwdriver to your ear. It should be clicking. Compare the sound to other injectors. Don't be fooled by the sound of the other injectors clicking near it. If you are sure its not clicking, try wiggling the connector while listening. If it starts to click, the terminals are probably corroded. I cant remember off hand if that injector is an easy one to get to but you will need to get the connector off and have a look. Replacement connectors are available, but the injector terminals will need cleaning too. Scrape them VERY carefully (they can break) with a tiny jeweler's file. Once clean, check the resistance of the injector while you have it accessible. It should be around 15 ohms.
Of course, diagnosing cars over the internet is a crap shoot at best, but I hope this helps.

Actually i believe the resistance should be b/w 10 to 14 ohms.

Yeah, that's around 15 ohms.
