Ok, so it's been raining for the last few days straight (which is funny cuz we were in the middle of a bad drought. Gotta love Kansas) so I decided it was time to get some "controlled" sliding in under my belt. I did it for about the last hour and a half and I think I've got it down. I could do it before, but not consistanly. It usually turned into a powerslide, but not today!!! My car is seriously lacking power, so I can't really do it when it's dry, but I took full advantage of the weather today. Regardless, I now understand why this is so popular in Japan, it's fun as hell!!! I never really understood the desire to loose traction on purpose except for fun. But after today I could now see how this might be a faster way to go around a corner. Definatly faster in this weather. I did do some damage though. I bent the crap out of my thumbnail. The wheel snaped back and smacked it pretty good. Then I lost control and ended up 2 feet away from a telephone pole. (I rolled down the window and touched it) I decieded it was time to quit after that. Anyway, anybody else get any good rainy day dori-dori in?

Please be carefull! I can not count how many members that have smacked guardrails,mailboxes,ect...in the rain.some by drifting but most by just pushing the car over the limit.I am not preaching just a bit concerned.;)

Thanks for the concern, but I was being as careful as possible. Nothing high speed for sure. I dont think I went any faster than 35mph the whole time. I'm pretty familiar with loosing traction. I go into a big parking lot the first snow of every year and re-familiarize myself with how the car reacts and where the limits are. I've been driving 240's for the last 3 yrs and I know my car fairly well. I'm by no means invincible or a god of drifting, but I'm good enough with it not to get my self killed or hurt.

yeah i almost hit a power pole also, but thats cuz ABS sucks.. it kicked in and my car just kept going.. but i didnt hit it and thats all that matters ;)

another good place to drift when its dry out is look for new devolpents, normaly they pave the roads first, and when the trucks go in and out of the sand they will put alot of sand onto the road, and that makes it easy to brake loose on.. or even dirt roads work well also, nice thing about devlopments is, there arnt normaly ppl around (all the homes are empty) and most cops wont care if your doing that as long as ur not gonna kill anyone.. so have fun but try not to hit anything...

I've tried doing it when it's dry and I have 2 problems. First my clutch isn't strong enough to send a good shock through the drive train to brake the wheels loose, and secondly, if I can get the to brake loose, I don't have enough power to keep them going. I've tried it COUNTLESS times and it never works. But gimmie some rain.....

Yeah, I just got back from a small episode of rain drifting. Nothing amazing, just a few slides around a few corners. Just enough to scare my sister sh*tless!

yeah be careful, especially if your car is setup to drift when its dry, I hit a fence a few weeks ago while it was wet, no real damage, bent plate, scratched bumper, headlight got knocked crooked, and another time i decided to drift where there were rocks, ended up in a ditch and had to have my bro pull me out.

But i agree theres nothing like a mid-night shiny parking lot after a good shower, for drifting

Yea, I almost did the same thing on a dirt road. I was going to take this turn off the highway and it 'WAS' asphalt. Well I guess they had but down that tar and rock stuff since the last time I was on it and by the time I realized that it wasn't asphalt it was too late. Fortunatly, I save it and just spun out.

but if u know how to handle it, then have fun!! :) one nice thing by me is the skid pad (used to train police in defensive driving) it has a nice slick top on it.. get a lil bit of soap and water on it and its just like driving on ice.. hours of fun or untill the cops come and make u leave... :(

I think I did alright. I've got a pretty good handle on my car. Not a god or anything, but good enough not to wreck it.

but sometimes good handling on ur car does not equal good handling on the forces of nature!

just have fun and be careful...

oh yea, I know. I actually did the same thing she did last year for the same reason. bald tires, going down hill and I coudln't slow down. I was only going like 50mph and I just couldn't get it to stay undercontrol.

bald tires + rain + bump in the road = HKC 240 goes bump in the night. smacked one side real good.

Yeah I love rain drifting!! Feels like my car finally has that 400hp upgrade I'm saving for!! Especially with lsd. I just stomp on it and voila sideways! Negative sliding when dry though. Only weak fish tails!
