Just as the title says. The radio works fine does everything its supposed to until I turn on the ligths.. Then it locks the radio up basically and NOTHING works volume or anyhthing. It will still play whatever was playing previously (radio or Cd) you just lose all control over it. Its a custom radio. a cheap VR DVD player from wal mart. I checked the wiring from harness to the radio itself.. its all good..

Has any one else experienced this problem

Did you hook up the illumination wire?

Well obviously something is, since you turn on the lights and lose control. Try unhooking the illumination wire and see what happens.

Disconnect any orange wires... Solid orange or striped orange wires are illumination wires. Never disconnect those when hooking up an aftermarket radio. They aren't car specific and can short out certain features(hense your problem).

This is what I was getting at. It is probably a white wire with an orange stripe. Snip it, tape it, test it out. It should be fine after this.

For the record, my deck (JVC GD-820) supports it, and its just to reduce the brightness when you turn the headlights on. Pretty cool feature.

Anywho, I think we all agree the takeaway on this is not to leave any wires that carry voltage simply flapping in the breeze. Soldered and shrink wrapped harnesses ftw
