Your head unit may have its own separate fuse installed in it (usually in the back of the head). The car has a fuse for the stereo, but that's all a guessing game of how it was installed. Some people use the factory power supply when installing aftermarket parts. Some just grab any wire that has "key-on" power. So as previously stated, the best way to know for sure is to pull the head unit out and look. No matter what the problem is, you will have to eventually pull it out to fix the problem anyways, so might as well bite the bullet and get it over with.
There are several pages on the forum explaining how to get it out without damaging any of the interior panels if you have never removed them yourself.
The speakers all being blown together is unlikely... and would not cause the head unit not to turn on. The good news is, there are only 3 wires that can cause this problem!
1. The power wire. (Usually Red, wired directly to battery power, either on its own, or through another circuit)
2. The ground wire. (Usually black, wired to any ground. Could be another wire. Could just be a metal surface, such as a nut, bolt, or screw, or less likely, it could be wired directly to the battery ground)
3. The remote wire. (Usually blue, connected to the key-on power somehow, either directly to the ignition circuit, or to another wire that gets power only during key-on)
Best way to figure out which wires do what on your head would be to find the product # (Usually on the faceplate of the head unit) and look up a wiring diagram online. This will show you the location and colors of the Power, Ground, and Remote wires.
If you would like to check to make sure the head unit works on its own, wire the Remote AND the Power wire together to a power source (Such as the battery, or a 12V jump pack), and find a good, known ground and connect the ground wire to that. This will FOR SURE, turn on the head unit if it is good and has a good fuse (If it has its own fuse). If it does not turn on, then look into the head unit before looking at wiring. If it does not come on this way, there is likely an internal problem with the head unit.
