What do you guys think of the radio reception?

I wasn't impressed, but planned to buy an aftermarket radio, the new radios are just as bad. Is this just a Versa issue? I get a lot of stations, but they mostly have static, and with HD stations, I can't really get a good enough lock to listen to them without dropping out or back to normal FM.

I didn't have problems with the first Camel (no audio package, basic antenna) and I have no problems with my current Camel (audio package with satellite capable antenna)...

(both were SLs)

loose cable?

Could it be loose somewhere between the radio and antenna? Is the wire that connects them continuous? or are there multiple wires plugged together along the car?

Thanks for the quick responses kimber.

I would assume it's continuous, but I do not know for a fact.

It is not a continuous cable. There is a Universal style connection just a couple feet from the Antenna on the roof.

When I originally did my first stereo, no ant adapter was available yet. So I ran a new universal style antenna cable all the way close to the antenna in the roof.

Found it in the service manual. Is the A. Audio antenna harness connector the standard antenna connector? The service manual, as best as I can tell, doesnt tell how to get into that area. Is that what you did? Is it easy to get there?

Thanks!

---------Is this something that I can easily check or should I stick my factory radio back in and take it to the dealer? Could you point me to the section in the service manual that would explain how to get to these connectors?`

When I test drove the Versa I checked a couple of lower-power stations that my previous cars had trouble with, and was happy with the Versa's reception, given the stubby antenna. I listen to a couple of HD-FM stations, too, and have had no problems with them.

Hmmm, maybe I'm just used to the reception in my old car. I guess I should take another Versa for a test drive and see how that sounds.

My old car had an Alpine head unit.

Still haven't gotten around to test driving another Versa. But my reception can't be correct. It definately seems worse than the stock radio even now. Could it be that the lue power antenna wire isn't working correctly? How could I verify that?

I am not aware of either trim levels radio being HD compliant. There are indeed several HD radio stations out of Greensboro and you can find all the listings here. Only way to know for certain would be to see if you can pick up those stations AND get the digital feeds. I also only listen to Sirius when I do listen to the radio so my experience with that is nill.

1) PLEASE use something resembling proper spelling and grammar. We don't like people using txt tlk here. You WILL be mocked to death if you keep doing this.

2) Satellites also play the same things repeatedly. But they have a lot more channels, and usually larger playlists, so the repeat time is much longer.

Neither Versa stock stereo is HD compliant. In order to get HD radio on your Versa, you would need an aftermarket HD ready radio, or to use an add-on HD receiver that plugs in through an aux port.

As an English major, I'm with EV. Annoying to the nth degree. Especially since there's a spell check!

I got an HD Radio tuner/keypad called the Visteon Zoom. It was like $70, you can hook it up via an external RCA input or using the FM modulator. It could be hooked to the stock radio if you know how to power it correctly.

Our Versa radio is what I would term "normal" for any car radio. It works as well as any other car radio we've had for normal broadcast stations.

We dropped Sirius satellite, though, because we could only get reception sporadically through the sections of Upland we drive every day. Too many dead spots, making it an irritant instead of entertainment. It did work quite well elsewhere.
