Radio does not come on... sometimes?

It's kinda weird, recently my 94 Q45 Bose radio (no CD in trunk) will not come on when I start the car... but sometimes it will... when it does not come on... it stays off.... then on next start it might work... rather annoying... one time it did not come on at start.... then all of a sudden came on while driving... sounds like a short but I am not sure where to start trouble shooting... So I thought i should ask the experts? Thanks in advance!

It could either be the head unit itself or the relay... Im relatively sure though the bose HU turn on is seperate from the relay for the amps, meaning you can have the amps not turn on but the HU come on. However, the HU is the thing that triggers the amps to turn on so id be inclined to think its got something to do iwth the turn on for the HU. \

I would personally try swapping HUs, people basically give those things away.
