Hey Guys. I currently own a 1990 300zx NA. Im having a slight issue with the cooling system and I was hoping I may be able to get some assistance. When I drain, flush and fill my radiator Its having trouble staying in it. It used to go into the overflow tank and leak out of there but now it seems to be leaking around the transmission area. The only time a leak occurs is when I run the car up to operating temperature and then once I shut it off it leaks. I took it to a shop, they replaced the radiator cap. The cap didnt make a difference. He suggested it was a blown head gasket but doing some further investigating I came to conclusion it wasnt that. Is it possible its a bad thermostat? The AC and Heat work so I am not sure if thats it or not. Changing the radiator was also a suggestion. Thank you for taking time to read this and I am hoping someone will be able to help me out.

Heater core, hoses, or one of the many factory coolant lines snaking around under the plenum. Try bypassing the plenum coolant lines and see if that makes a difference.

I agree with Ace, definitely check the 2 heater hoses. If they are leaking get some silicone hoses.

Its a little bit of work, but at the rear of the engine, where the heater hoses attach, there are a couple of t's that come off of them. Block them off or run a hose from one to the other kinda thing. The coolant lines under the plenum are just not needed, even in the cold weather, I never had an issue when I had my older z's. But that would be the only area that they could leak.

The only other option to look at are the freeze plugs, but those should be obvious to a competent mechanic.

Have him run a pressure test when cold on the cooling system. He could add a dye in the system if he is having that much of an issue. Tell him to stop throwing parts at it at your expense.
