I have a KADET in my '73 510. The radiator is a griffin Scirocco style unit with 1.5" tubes. The car runs at about 180 degrees while driving but quickly shoots to 220+ when idleing. I installed 2 derale 9" pusher fans (thats all that would fit) that run constantly but they don'y seem to help. It seems that the radiator should be able to handle the engine as a guy I know runs a VG30E in his 510 with the same radiator and he can barly get it to warm up. I wouldn't think that the water cooled center section of the turbo would alter the water temp that much but maybe I'm wrong. I've heard that a VW VR6 radiator might work, but don't know. Any Ideas?????

you're using fan shrouds, right? when you say pushers, i hope your fans aren't mounted inside the engine bay.

most people don't bother water cooling their turbo for this exact reason.

They are mounted in front of the radiator behind the grill so the push air through the radiator instead of the more common ones that pull air through the raditor into the engine compartment. The only shroud is around the fans thenselves, between the fans and the radiator. The fan thermostat is in the upper radiator hose.By getting rid of the watercooling feature on the turbo, do I have to buy a dry center section or can I just eliminate the water supply lines? FYI, The turbo is T3/T4 Hybrid.

make sure your thermostat is working properly... cheap autozone replacements (like mine) tend to sieze up. I gutted mine, now the temp never goes above 140 deg.

#1 I work at Advance Auto, so everything from Autozone sucks (unless they start signing the checks, then they are cool with me!) #2 a lot of people have this problem at work, and the very simplest of solutions is to drill and tap a hole on the highest point on the cooling system to bleed air, but since you are running a KA, you will notice on the intake manifold you have a bolt labeled something to the effect of 'Hot, do not loosen until engine is cool'. Wait until it is cool, then pop that bolt out. Then you will pop off the radiator cap, and add coolant until it comes out of the hole. Then cap off the hole, and let it run. In my very personal experience, this motor likes to hold onto air, and doing this should help. Changing the Thermo only made my problem worse. Hope that helps.
