radiator flush and fill

Went to quickie lube place and tech told me the antifreeze in radiator was low and topped off 1 qt. Added 1 qt myself.

This guy told me I need to do a radiator flush 'n fill or "the engine will freeze".. Is he pulling my leg?

depends. how old is your car, how many miles? When was the last time you flushed and filled your cooling system?

Your coolant system wont Freeze unless your like -20 degrees, however to maintain the cooling system on your car, you should do a flush n fill every 2 years or so. I do mine every year, it takes only about an hours, and costs about $15.

however, if your losing coolant, it could be a bigger problem. Are you seeing puddles under the car?

I don' ANY poddles or leaks. It's a 97 with 140k miles. The lower radiator hose was replaced 3 months ago and new antifrezze was added. Don't remember when it was flushed.
