can someone please tell me what this fitting is for? is it supposed to be hooked
up to a line or something? there are two fittings - one on the left side of the radiator
and one on the right, well the one on the left side is broken off. I don't see
any hoses around that area that are disconnected. Any help would be
appreciated.

ok I figured out thats for the transmission fluid cooling, can the fittings be purchases seperately or
do I have to buy the entire bottom radiator tank, which wouldn't be horrible, I saw the tank online
for about $50. But I am also wondering if I can just swap out the fittings from the new tank or would
I have to replace the tank. If the tank has to be replaced, do I have to pull the radiator to replace the tank?

also how bad is it to drive with the transmission fluid being cooled? I don't tow anything and I don't do much
highway driving.

well apparently it's not a big deal for your vehicle to run without a trans cooler. this primitive design is not very effective, anyway.

replacing an end tank on a radiator like ours is going to be more difficult and almost the same price as just buying a used radiator from the junkyard. they usually come with a 1-year warranty. if you don't like using used parts, and are on a budget, the radiator will most easily be repaired when it is out of the vehicle.

i would try to replace the fitting first. it is threaded in, so if only the nipple broke off, there should be no problem in removing and replacing the whole fitting. be sure to inspect and thoroughly clean the internal condition, because it has been open to the elements for who knows how long. the last thing you need is to be introducing rust and metal/dust particles into your transmission fluid lines.
