Well, 15 years later (90chassis) the original radiator finally gave out.

I was just taking it for a daily drive to work when my coolant needle started to rise, so I pulled her over before it could reach the line before the first solid line. Shes steaming a little bit. Got coolant, couldn't figure out where it was going/leaking from. So I filled her up, drove great with heater off and not a smidge of a lift from the needle. Got to work, was going on break to get a book from across the street, but the car wasn't making the usual deep rumble it does. So I turned it off and saw a small puddle of coolant. Respectively, I popped the hood and saw slightly more leaking onto my A/C drier. My hoses were new, so that left the radiator. Well, turning the car back on to take to running temperature, I watched the engine bay as the top and bottom seams broke, then burst, really burst, and the radiator cracked in 3 other places!! Coolant everywhere.

Atleast I never left the parking lot But, thanks to Cingular and the road hazard package, it got towed for free and a new oem radiator is going in tomorrow!

Is it difficult to make an oilcooler from it? Well, whats left of it anyway?

i dont know if you have an auto or manual but autos have a little transmission oil cooler at the bottom...

I dont know what your radiator looks like now but its prob a junk unless you got that oil cooler at the bottom.

Eh, the stock radiators have a bunch of plastic on them. It's not unusual for this style of radiator to blow from the pressure put on old and brittle plastic.

A buddy of mine had a 90 Corrola Wagon. His popped a few years back and we've went through a couple on my dads '86 F350 before we found an all aluminum piece.

I replaced my 240's before it even popped. I figure that with a 15 year old car the stocker isn't going to last much longer anyway and I don't want the hassle of towing it.

If you want cheap insurance on your new radiator check the thermostat, it probably went out. Just toss it into some boiling water and make sure it opens fully.

I was wondering why the new radiator has oil lines...I'll just keep 'em capped off until I get time to put a bung into my oil pan or something. At least it'll be there for whenever I decide to go turbo. This one is alluminum and though I thought it'd cool more effective, it sits at just the same spot on the gauge as the old one. Oh well. At least it'll be another 15 years til I need to replace it.

Oh, and I wasn't even driving when it blew, just idling in the parking lot. Pretty pathetic, it didn't even go out with a bang. : ( ...though I dont think I woulda wanted that anyway.

some of the older SOHCs has brass core radiators. My both my friends had theirs go out. The bottom nubs are for the trans lines of you have an auto. I guess some sort of small auto trans cooler.

I've gotta ask you, what is the color of your car, and where did you get the clear corners?

From what I understand about the color its called Saphire Blue Metalic. Also at night its kind of undescrible, it almost looks dark blue/purple. It was only available in 93'. I bought the clear corners off ebay. Think they were $22 shipped. I have only seen one picture of a car the same color.

Here is a shot during the day, sorry if its from far away.

It looks great! Did you get it painted at a reputable shop, or a cheapy? I'm looking to get mine done, but first I have to get a replacement fender to fit right. It just doesn't seem to want to fit worthadamn.

Stock untouched paint still. It has some blemishes on the hood and bumper and misc door dings.

I was truly not aware that the blue was a stock color.
