im trying to help my friend out with his new radiator and radiator fan wiring setup.
the stock has 2 fans. aftermarket is just one big fan.
the car runs up to 210+ and the fan does not turn on.
1st off, how can i test the lines (physically) to know if we getting a signal/power to the fan? should i just run the car to reach 195, turn off the engine but keep the key in the ON position and test the wires to see if the fan triggers?
i mean that should work right? because electric engine fans turn on when the thermo sensor reaches temp.
help me out guys, fan is not working and we tried many different wiring configurations.
I dug out my copy of the 2006 FSM
It is a very complex operation as the stock motors have multiple windings and multiple speeds
You will need to read the entire testing procedure in the FSM which covers point to point testing including applying 12v to the fan motor testing both low speed and high speed windings to confirm that the motor is good.
The FSM describes testing without using a CONSULT ll for testing along with a 150 ohm resister.
There are fuses and fusable links.
The FSM also describes testing the various harnesses and connections between the relays, fan motors, and the CPU. The CPU is supplying the 12v to the motor windings and the relay operation supplies the ground.
The relays supply ground to various windings of the motors for the different speeds.
The FSM also cautions not to overheat the engine.
Good luck
