Whilst driving home a couple days ago, the radiator on my daughter's I30t finally gave out (AZ heat +/- 103 deg). It began losing power and she noted the temp gauge heading into the "H" region so she pulled over and called me. She was in a rather inopportune location, so she traveled another 3/4 mile to a parking lot and I met her there and refilled the radiator, noting the two inch crack on the upper tank. The temp went back to 1/2 and we traveled another 8 miles towards home (10 miles away) before the gauge began to climb towards, but not onto the dreaded "H" again. We reloaded the radiator and finished the two miles to home, with the temp staying below 3/4 for the remainder of the trip. I have now replaced the rad and hoses but now the engine won't turn over. Battery checks okay, but just some relay noises coming from under the dash and hood. Oil is clean (no milkshake) and no visible leaks. In following her home, I noticed no visible signs of oil burning or other obvious smoking coming from the exhaust. The engine started fine each time we had to stop and refill during the trip home... (and yeah, we should have probably towed it, but...)Questions: is there some overheat interlock that needs to be reset? could the engine have seized? new engine codes are P0105, P0732 & P0325 (was already getting the P0303 code, probably need injector?)Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

according to your codes you have malfunctioning: absolute pressure sensor, 2nd gear - transmission and the knock sensor. the 0303 is a cyl #3 misfire - first replace plugs, if doesn't help - coil, and last the injector. got to http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/1999 and click on ec.pdf, from there check your codes and see what the fsm tells you to do.

Welcome to NICO, sorry to hear about your issues.

I doubt the failure to turn over is related to engine damage due to heat. It would probably behave differently if that were the case.

I'd suspect the alternator or starter. One of them might have just died by coincidence at the same time. Relay/clicking from dash with no starter noise usually means a starter or alternator problem. You can pull the alternator in your driveway and take it to an Autozone or similar parts store and have them load test it. It's not in the world's most convenient spot, but it's definitely not a difficult job.

What's the voltage at your battery?

Thanks for the comments, I wouldn't think it's seized either, but it just so coincidental that the engine won't start after all this happened; but it could be something (H2O or excessive heat) that somehow affected the starter or alternator or or associated wiring. I'll check all the connections that I can access and see if anything changes. The removal of the alternator does look like a bear, it would probably require I remove the rad and lower hose again just for ease of access, hmmmmm.

Thanks again to both of you for your responses!
