My upper radiator hose attachment on my plastic OEM radiator finally died on the way to work Thursday. It lost a lot of coolant, pegged the HAWT needle on the way back home, and finally started to sputter and buck. I shut it off at that point and got a tow home. I let the car cool off the whole day and added some water back in after work. The inlet on the radiator had enough left that I was able to get the hose connected back and it would allow the car to run.

I have ordered a new aluminum radiator that should arrive next week. I don't see any water in the oil or any milky substance that would indicate a blown headgasket. I was able to start the car and allow it to idle in the driveway for 15 minutes and it wouldn't get too hot (around normal on the gauge). When I went to move the car after running it for 15 minutes, it does have a small sputter/bog from idle at 800rpm. It clears up at 1100rpm and it doesn't appear if I have the A/C on because of the higher idle.

I plan to unhook the battery when I replace the radiator this week, which should reset the ECU (if that will help anything). What else should I check to clear up the last bit of stumbling? Spark plugs maybe? I will probably change the oil and filter also since it probably got too hot as well. The car ran great before this, so I don't expect too many things to have gone bad. My intent is to just get it back to running the same as it was before and not rebuild or replace much else unless needed. I plan to fully rebuild it all next year.

Thoughts from the "experts" welcomed...

you can get a gadget from AZ rent-a-tool to pressurize the coolant system. if you blew the head gasket the system wont hold pressure.

If it got to the point of not running correctly while hot, you've screwed the head gaskets/warped the head most likely. Would be amazed if its not.

Hopefully its not.

But would just be sure to burp the system very well. Then if it still overheats, especially after load then the blown HG is probably presurizing the coolant system.

My old coupe overheated on me (water pump went bad) and never even ran bad before I shut it off, still blew the HG.

I have a new radiator and dual fan setup coming from Enjuku this week. I'll be sure to get the air out and see how it goes.
