Radiator at 66000 miles

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Has anyone had to replace their radiator? Apparently the factory ones have plastic parts that will crack over time and leak. My dealership says this is not covered by the powertrain warranty, is this correct?

I haven't looked closely at the details of the powertrain warranty, but in general I don't believe that things like radiator failure are covered. If you have a good dealership and choose to have them do the work, i'd complain a bit and see if they'd be willing to cover some or all of the repair cost.

Infiniti isn't the only automaker that uses plastic in their radiators; so depending on the radiator designs for each individual automaker, a similar failure could happen to other models.

Forum members XIS and C.Los have changed out their radiators, and I believe there were a few others as well. This doesn't seem to be a common problem on this model, but I guess it does happen from time to time.

My dealership was bought out since I last purchased a vehicle from there, so I am basically a new customer to them. They didn't care that I have paid them to do most of the maintenance on that car, or that I am basically 6700 miles out of warranty. There was no discounting their pricing even though I asked. They did offer an aftermarket option that cost $400 less than the oem radiator, I would have had to wait on them to order the oem one anyway. Next time it needs some out of warranty work, I'll be taking it somewhere else. At least I know they filled the system correctly and hopefully got any air pockets out of it. When the coolant ran out it got too hot and went into limp mode, but the engine didn't get damaged.
