I am posting this for opinions and testimonials. I gotten 5 speeding tickets in the last 8 months on my coupe I have dropped so much money in court, it's not funny anymore. I want a radar detector but honestly don't trust them. I'm sure many of you have a detector and are satisfied with it, I would like to know what's good and what's not so good out there. Thanks

I know its not the same as a radar detector but the Phaser II doesnt work. I cop that I was friends with could still get my speed and show it to me.

i have a couple friends that have the escort 9500i, its the best one out in all reviews that i have read but its around 400 to 450. also this is if u got money to spend theres some thing that is a lil less then a grand that u install in ur bumper some where and it actully bounces off the radar laser so they cant read u at all! believe its made by escort too.

I dont know about a jammer, that may get you pulled over, lol. I have a detector, and yea i like getting somewhere in a hurry, no speeding tickets yet. And the police dont play around over here, a detector is a good investment.

Let me be the first a$$ to say slow down and you won't need one. But my Whistler XTR-560 has saved my bacon on the Highway lots of times. It's a middle of the road one that I bought at costco for cheap. Also depends what kind of enforcement they use where you are. Laser, K/Ka etc., my whistler picks them all up but I'm sure at less range than the valentine or bel ones. I wouldn't trust any detector in town, too many false alerts. Better to keep up points of interest in your gps if you have one for frequent radar locations and slow down accordingly.

Ahhh...not for a $1K. I'd be pissed if I had bought that, got it installed and still got pulled over for speeding!

The Valentine and Passport are the only 2 effective radar detectors.

I would recommend the Passport.

The Passport tells you your speed going off of GPS right when the radar hits you. That way you know what speed the cop got you at.

Don't totally rely on Radar detectors. They should only be used when you REALLY need to get somewhere fast. If you think you can just speed cause you have a radar detector you will get even more tickets. The best thing to do is to leave a few minutes earlier.

Also, a radar detector doesn't do any good for laser radar's which are one of the more common radars used.

I've got the Escort 8500 X50 and it's really good, most people compare it to the valentine, some say it's better. The 8500 isn't as good as the 9500i because it doesn't have the GPS so it doesn't eliminate the false signals like the 9500i does, so the false alerts go off on me all the time, it's kind of annoying. It's about $100-200 less than the 9500i though, i picked mine up for $250 new. Search youtube for "valentine" and "escort" radar videos, there's lots of comparisons.

No jammer, you won't get anything with a jammer unless it's around $1k. The jammers are actually installed into your bumpers.

Wont the cop be able tell - when he get NO reading from his radar when attempts to clock your speed???

Getting caught with a radar jammer seems more illegal than speeding itself - would be curious what the penalty would be.

Also the POs could have jammer detectors- (a guess on my part). I've heard that in VA where radar detecters are illegal - the POs have Radar Detecter DECTECTERS - that alert for the presence of a radar detecter.

To the OP - whether you have a radar or not you have to do a better job or "reading" the roads. Paying attention to cars ahead of you reacting to speed traps, not speeding around blind corners, letting the jackrabbit - speeder pass you and you follow. I can t remember the last ticket I got - and I drive pretty fast.

Even if the cop can "tell" you have a jammer, they can't give you a ticket because they can't tell your speed, only that you're speeding.

PO's won't go that far out of their way to catch people with jammers. Cops don't target cars like that to get a jammer jammer.. Plus there's not enough people out there with jammers to get a jammer detector. I don't believe there's anything illegal about having a jammer, depending where you live or course.

I wouldn't get a jammer anyways, they cost way too much, just get a radar detector, and if you do get lazer'ed and get a ticket, just pay the ticket, it'll cost you less than getting a jammer.
