After tons of research, I bought an Escort 9500i. It is the best detector I have ever owned and I have owned a few. It has GPS so you can lock out all of the annoying false alarms on your routes so that you don't become a complacent and ignore it (which happened with all of the others). I do a lot of highway driving in the early morning and late night with my work. I drive @ around 100 all the time. This detector has alerted me with plenty of time to slow down without fail.It was a little pricey @ $450.00 but 1 ticket with the way I drive and the increase on the insurance and it is well worth it. So post em up boys what ya running?

I have Escort 8500. I am surprised that 7+ years ago they cost exactly what they cost now, around $300. I think it's almost as good as Valentine 1. Everything else is trash.

I don't speed that much anymore since I've grown up but when I take it down I still feel naked. It's a great gadget. Whether I am speeding or not, it's always good to know if a cop is in vicinity.

PS: You may not want to advertise driving 100mph because you will get chewed out on this forum

Ok so don't advertise that I run around 100 mph? So I am to assume that all the guys in this forum with tricked out whips get to 65 mph and stop? And we bought these cars why? I am driving @ either 5:00am or 12:30 am. There is no traffic and I do not weave in and out. I get maybe 3-4 hours of sleep some nights so I try to get home as fast as possible. And if scanning patients during 16 hour shifts isn't grown up, I don't know what is!

I love my V1, but that GPS lockout for nusiance alarms sounds awefully nice

Just like birth control, there's no foolproof method of not getting caughty with your pants down, but a good radar detector is a great tool for the casual or not so casual speeder!

With POP usually there is a car up ahead that will generate a blast of signal to alert me and then the signal will stop. Having the GPS lets me know that that is a new signal in that area and to slow down. Also in Mass. most Staties hide under over passes so I automatically back off a little approaching one. Locals seem to let it blast all the time so you can see them coming miles away. I have family members in both branches and they say they rarley use instant on because they said it is a "pain in the ***"and that they have lost cases in court or had tickets reduced because POP is very difficult to keep properly calibrated and if you call them on it, it causes some doubt in the eyes of the litigator.

that detector sounds awesome!I've been wanting to get one for awhile, but my 6th sense for cops has saved me many times! and if I do randomly get pulled over, I just start talkin shop or military with em and get off.....usually haha.

So is your alarm one that sticks onto the window? Or is there a hardwire/remote sensor setup. I've been wanting to put one in my sun glasses holder (since it sux for holding sunglasses anyways) and just run a short wire to the remote sensor and place it right next to the others behind the rear view mirror. any thoughts?

Yes it goes onto the windshield and there is a remote wiring system with controls on the hard wire to mute, lockout and store signals or false signals just like on the cig lighter wire so that you don't have to lean forward to control the detector. The detector is the standard size and would not fit in the glasses case.

I have the same advantage as you, I usually tell the cop that I am on call and I have been pulled into the ER for an emergency. Another advantage is that I am also a bodybuilder who works out at a gym where all the locals, staties, and co's work out so 10 to one I know them!

first off when i'm viewing this page i see an advertisement for "www.1stRadarDetectors.com" on the bottom of the page. Kinda funny. 2nd I've been saying i need a radar detector for years. I should just suck it up and buy one.

Also a fun fact about laser(ladar) guns that cops use. They have to use them with the windows down. So they are less likely to use them in bad weather. And also the range of the laser guns gets greatly decreased in fog and bad weather.

I have a hardwired V-1 and I love it. There is this place called country joy crafts online and they make this great mount for our V-1's and also the escorts. It mounts it to the rearview mirror and it is not on the windshield. A little time and effort and you can have it hardwired with no cords or wires hanging toward the cig lighter. Also as for the cops to shoot laser they have to be stationary and radar they can be moving.

Yea kinda weird but they make them. Just make sure you follow the sizing instructions for the mirror. If I get a minute I will post up a pic of my setup.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that because there is an advertisement on the bottom of page of my thread on radar detectors that they are some how related?

Well I know now not to start threads on clutch net, tire rack or anyone else. I bought mine at Best Buy along with the hard wire cable. Your actually right, I became a member to infiltrate your club to put subliminal thoughts of Escort 9500's in your head. First I thought I would throw you off guard with a tire question almost giving away that I worked for Toyo Tire too.

I held my radar detector up by the mirror and I don't like it. I think it looks better just sitting on the bottom of the windshield. What's the point of putting it underneath the mirror? It's not very inconspicuous.

I was thinking about cutting a hole in the sunglass holder and fitting it in there somehow but I don't think I can cut up my interior just like that :p

You're a retard if you run 100+ on the freeways.

That being said, I have an Escort 8500 that I've been running for almost two years. Great for radar, except the laser detection isn't all that great.

I will slow down. I didn't know that cured retardism. I must tell my colleagues at Mass General. Man I will tell you Infiniti Chica was right, this club is really brutal. So far from a simple thread about radar detectors, I have been called a retard and been accused of working for radardetectors.com all in my second post. Thanks for the welcome and I will be sure just to watch the threads rather than participate in writing them.

I Just registered tonight and I'm already learning,.................from your mistakes. All these years in the medical field and I'm surpirsed they never taught me that slowing down cures retardation, or was that retardism? What ever.

and It has conconclusively been proven that speed does not kill. Differences in speed do. Just watch a couple of episodes of Top Gear or Speed Channel.

Take F1 or Nascar You have 15 or 20 cars traveling in relatively the same direction at speeds of ??? 120MPH avg. 40 MPH in the corners and 200 MPH on the straights. One ever gets killed until they run in to a wall or a stopped car facing the other direction.

I shold stop rambling.

Correct. Speed doesn't kill, speeding does. Going well beyound the posted speed limit. Doing so, causes the difference in speed that you're talking about. I think you're splitting hairs, but your clarification is good.

I really don't see the abuse that you are talking about. It's only words on a forum. Don't take things to heart. If any of my words were misinterpreted as words of disrespect then i am sorry.

Maybe I shouldn't have called you a retard. Tone of voice can't be expressed over the internet.

You have to agree that regularly driving on the freeway at 100+ mph, is unsafe, not just for yourself, but others also. I personally think it's retarded to put others in danger. If you want to drive like that on a closed course, I'll be in line right behind you. I have no problems with driving fast, I just don't care for endangerment of the innocent.

Don't take a few negative comments to heart. It's not that big of an issue. You will always have a thread that gets you flamed, and I'd hardly call this a flaming.

Word of advice, if you talk about street racing or excessive speeding/endangering others on this forum, it will usually get negative feedback.

Start posting actively. You'll enjoy it. Once you get to know some of us, we're not that bad. I mean hell, I told Jacko3 to get back on his meds or something like that... He took it well. You just have to get to know us, and not take things said so personal. If anyone really starts flaming like nasty personal attacks, I will ban them. Hope to see you here more often.

lol, don't let Noah (Beancooker) scare you off! He can be grumpy from time to time.

But I do agree that going 100+ for any length of time is dangerous on roads that don't have unlimited speed limits. This is only because other drivers are not going that fast, and on the US highways, drivers usually don't respect the "fast lane". (I lived in Italy for 3 years, and yes they are better drivers).

I think the radar comment was a and not to be taken so literally. The ads here sometimes change to resemble the topic in discussion. It's an internet forum my friend, your going to get all walks of life here (and any other forum). Get some thicker skin.

Trust me, we have no problem banninng someone (as Beaner said) should they get personal!

Hope to see you participating again soon!
