Radar detector wiring

i just bought a radar detector from a friend. i want it to turn on with my ignition, can i just connect the positive to the ACC ignition lead for my head unit??

Just do some wiring up. Splice the radar wire on the end that it goes into the lighter. Run the wire throught the pillar and underneath the steering wheel or through the vents right to the backside of the lighter. take a blade and cut down to the lighter wires and match up the wires and vioala, on all the time. You can go buy a fuse from radio shack as well if you desire. This gives you the ability to fulfill your desire of having it on when the car turns on and still be eble to charge your cell phone taht is about to die because of a low battery

re-read your thread, you cannot just connect the positive to the other positive you mentioned, the other wire has to be connected somewhere else as stated above.

i already thougth about splicing into the cig. lighter wireing.. but the thing is i want to beable to leave the switch on my radar detector on all the time and just have power come to it when the ignition is on. therefore i need to ground it and use an acc or ignition wire, correct? so i could use the acc from my headunit then?

I have it wired as I stated above. When I turn the key all the way (without turning it on) the radar goes on. I do not think it turns on when I am just able to turn the radio on.

i wasn't sure if the cig lighter power was on all the time. thankx

yeah, 240s cig lighter goes hot when you turn the key to on. on many other model cars it is hot all the time.
