Radar detector re-wiring

My cigarette lighter power was used to power my underdash glow that I have so now the lighter oulet wont work. I just got a radar detector that only has a cigarette lighter power option (because i wasnt thinking) and I was wondering if anyone knew If i could just cut that and rewire the radar detector to the battery and ground with a switch or something and how to do that....thanks

or if i could rewire the underdash glow to the battery and re wire my cigarette lighter to work again, which ever is easier...
