I need some reveiws on radar detectors from people with personal experience with them. Im thinking of getting them after being slapped with 3 20 over tickets = 200$ each + 3 points in canada.

My insurance will skyrocket if i dont get the points dropped, and perhaps the car will have to sit around for a year before my rates go down.. cuz insurance in canada is f'in retardedly high. (A/C probably more then a 2008 NISMO 350z in the states insurance wise)

Also, are radar detectors illegel in some states? (Or in canada?) If i have one, do i have to hide it in a glove compartment or anything?

You are out of luck, Chow...

Radar detectors are illegal in Ontario.

All radar detector emit a signal and the higher quality ones, emits the less signal, so the police is unable to pick up your signal..

Get a Valentine1, 400 dollars well worth the money. Not only for speeding but it has arrows of direction of which the radar is coming from. That can help intersections, stops signs, etc. Radar detectors are illegal in Illinois, New York, Virginia. In Califorinia and Minnesota, I believe it is illegal only if placed on the windshield but on the dashboard is fine. In Canada, I'm not so sure, you can easily google if it is illegal in certain provinces.

Jammers are illegal in ALL 50 states. Detectors are state specific. I have a fullproof method on how to avoid tickets.... STOP SPEEDING! lol

The funny ting is that according to FCC "laws" radar detectors (not jammers) should be legal in all states, under "if you put it out" we can recive it arguments, i.e the Communications act of 1934" but Anyway Radar Detectors are illegal in th following states/Districts:

VA and DC, that's it (For non-commercial, or passenger vehicles)

if you want to get techincal any state that you cannot have something mounted on the windshield too.

Radar detectors can be useful at times but as already mentioned its best to just obey the speed limit. Your guaranteed not to get a speeding ticket

I find radar detectors annoying, even the good ones that don't pick pick up bogus signals.

I cannot drive without a radar detector. Chow, look into the Bel STi. It is undetectable by police and the performance is up there with the other top radar detectors. I personally have had an Escort 8500 x50 and now a Valentine One. Both has saved me too many times to count. The Bel STi has comparable performance with the added stealth you need for Canada. Of course this gives you no protection for laser though. You will also need a laser jammer for total coverage.

Been using one for years when I'm down south. (Out of State tags get their attention). Detectors help but will never be 100%. Ever since they came up with the "instance on" guns if a cop wishes to nail you they can. However the detector will give you a chance to sniff the trooper zapping the cars in front of you. And with use over time you will probably figure out the trooper's best hang outs to catching speeders so you will know when to really watch it.

I talked with a trooper one day and he said they sometimes just drive with their radar on so every car with a detector within a couple of miles slows a bit. He said he does it a lot when the road conditions really make speeding dangerous. Thats fine by me, I sometimes need a reminder that I'm driving too fast for the conditions.

BTW, watch out on I-95 though Baltimore, MD. Those cops there like to set up ticket stops just to make money. One guy with a gun flagging cars down with 8-10 cops just writing tickets along the shoulder. When one finishes writing a ticket, the guy with the gun just zaps the next car that drives by. Since everyone on the road is over the speed limit, they make a lot of money. They should just put up a toll station and be done with it.
