hey all you other rb20 owners.. im having coolant leak out of my cap and i dont know if this is normal for rb20 w/ a full aluminum koyo rad. usually after a run the sponge near the rad soaks up in coolant and i would run out of coolant from the reservoir in about every 2 weeks...

is this a sign my rad cap is dead? or is this normal?if i do need to replace it what pressure cap would you guys recommend? im running on a 1.1 generic one right now.

the engine has nothing to do with your radiator.

is your overflow bottle hooked up?

I had the same problem on my rb25! I just changed radiators, So im not sure what the fix is! I changed caps and it never helped. I figured it was a capasity issue.

Are you running a thermostat? What Degree?

Not to thread jack but Im also having a coolant issue, I have air in my line between my overflow bottle and radiator, so I dont think my overflow system is working, if I add coolant to the bottle it just fills up the bottle, and if I add it to the radiator it just spills out over the top.

that part of the system is not pressurized, it doesnt matter if there is air in the line. the overflow system only works when pressure inside the actual cooling system exceeds the pressure on the cap. then the cap opens (internally) and lets coolant flow through into the overflow.

you need to fill your radiator to the max, then put a little extra in the overflow. thats it.

Yes my overflow is hooked up. By 2 weeks it will be completely empty. im just running the oem thermostat but im pretty sure its not the problem since my engine is getting sufficient cooling. engine cooling is fine, its just that coolant guzzles out of the rad cap when ever i push it even past 3k

the flow throughout my cooling system seems fine. i can actually feel pressure running thru the hoses by just laying my hand on the upper and lower hoses.

It's probably the seal on your cap.I'd try a new 1.3bar cap and see if you still leak.

Hm I think I remember reading somewhere about a problem that some Koyos have with the filler neck getting bent and/or not sealing right... If you do a new cap and it still leaks, try a different radiator or have yours repaired... That problem isn't normal and should be fixed asap.
