I have a 92 Q45. I was told that it is common for the Rack and Pinion to leak, after a while. Is this true? Do the Steering Gears just wear out after a long period of use? Is it ok to replace it with a remanufactured one from Meridian Auto?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Rack should last the life of car if boots are replaced before they deteriorate and split allowing gritty debris to score rack piston and fluid is regularly replaced to prevent leaks from deteriorated rubber seals.I have over 200k on mine, others over 300k.

Do not get a generic reman rack-not enough parts renewed to makw a long lasting product

If it's just the seal(s) starting to leak and the rack isn't scratched by junk, you can try adding a SMALL amount of seal conditioner/stop leak to the fluid reservoir.

Lucas Sealer works better than most things...................however this is still a temporary fix! Until you get the rack rebuilt or replaced.

Failure to keep PS new and clean and not temperature abused will cause the seals to fail.

Still have oem as built rack 17 years and 317k later.
