I think it's been dispelled before, engines don't make torque with back pressure!!!!!! It's the scavenging effect of the smaller diameter piping that helps with low end torque!!!11111111one

so if i were to use the custom exhaust, i would be okay right??
I don't remember if the ebay exaust keeps the bend in the midpipe after the y-pipe. if it doesn't and it doesn't compensate somewhere else you will feel less low end torque but if it does then you'll only feel more power with it + y-pipe. with my y-pipe +stock exhaust i didn't feel any loss of low torque. so I think you'll be good!

The ebay exhaust doesn't have any of the crimps around the spot that the stock one does. It's normal round piping all the way through. There are no clearance issues either, I don't hit objects on the ground because of it either, so I'm not quite sure there is any real reason to have that crimp on the stock exhaust either. That would be a really silly but unique way to gain low end torque if it was the reason haha.

i got my ypipe installed today for 30 bucks (because i knew the guy.) I have a couple questions.....is the y pipe supposed to come with gaskets???? they guy at the shop told me it needs gaskets cause the stock ones werent a good fit. what he did was take the round gasket of the old one and taped it onto the area where he needed it to stay, then screwed it on. now i think there is a buring smell comming. he said it will burn and go away. he used a masking tape sort of thing.

other than the it sounds sweet but i didnt notice anything as far as power. =/ now waiting on the nismo!

I believe the older kits offered a gasket option, but not anymore. The "directions" say to swap the OEM gaskets to the new pipe. The shop that did mine did this, but also added some sealant. Not sure about the smell, but if it doesnt go away you bring it back to him and make him fix it.

But wait...no power?!?!?!

I IMMEDIATELY felt a difference in my coupe. It doesnt hit until around 4K RPMs, but its there for sure.

what do you mean by "sealent". is that something that goes inbetween the flanges???? i saw him put something there but i thought it was a gasket. It has the three holes for the sqrews to go in.

im going to drive tonight and ill test it better to see if there is any difference for me.

thanks!

so as for this ebay exhaust for $175... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...Parts

Is there really a 20hp increase??? or any type of gains??? really debating whether to buy this or not. It sounds sweet yes but does it perform the way its claiming???

i know for a fact that it would be no where near 20 hp gain. I doubt you would even notice a change in performance. There is a clip of how it sounds on youtube which in my opinion isnt bad at all esp for the price of 175 shipped. I had ordered that exhaust but returned it because i really wanted the nismo. imo the nismo sounds the best to me and im really picky about putting good aftermarket parts on my car.

if you want a deeper exhaust noise, the ebay one does the trick and does it well. It also seems like it wouldnt be an annyoing loud exhaust that you get sick of after a week.

so far i got the y pipe on the stock exhaust and boyyyyy does it sound sweet! also noticed a change in high end torque. I would go with the y pipe 1st!!!!

honestly, I didn't really notice any power gains in my car until the Y-pipe was added. Best bang for buck mod... period! The exhaust just mainly gave me a nicer sound, which was further complemented and deepened with the Y-pipe

Hey rj did you get a chance to make the video of the y-pipe and ebay special combo yet? Because I'm about to buy the e-bay exhaust since the topseepd greddy knock off seems just a tad bit too loud for my taste.

Yes, I did, it's not the same rear bumper viewing angle, more so from the side of the car...and a different camera (HD2 phone) but you can definitely hear the exhaust, and deep sound.

One of these days.....I'll use my real camcorder and put up a more objective video. ;)

And this was the $175 model, correct? Not the $275 Top Speed? Like the comments on your video, I also could not find the $175 model anymore.

Yes this is the model that sold for $175 originally. I think the pictures etc have changed on the listings, from what I think I remember in a link on another person's thread.

The other $300 exhaust is a pair of fart cans which are very obvious in their...fart canneded- ness... from appearance and lame sound. ;)

It is harder to find the $175 (total price which may be listed as "free shipping" or ~$139 + shipping) exhaust as of late '09 early '10, when someone else also said they couldn't find it any more. I wonder why though... it was/is the best $175 prefabbed exhaust I've seen for any car yet, hah.

It was still listed a few months ago, I found it listed twice but couldnt pull the trigger at the time (lame I know). Do you happen to remember the sellers name? Or could possibly go back through your purchase history and locate it? I will send you a brownie, for realz.

Well I've checked just now, and that seller I bought the exhaust from is no longer in business.

However a quick search for the Altima coupe exhaust has yielded a couple of results. One of them is the same exhaust I bought, but now listed for $299, and a second one listed as "OBX" also for around $300, but this second one does not have a resonator along the piping like mine does, however it comes with some really nice looking exhaust tips.

Both are however the same style, 1 muffler, 2 outlets.

Similar as mine with questionable tips and nice resonator:
$299 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/08-10-NI ... ccessories
OR for $289 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DUAL-TIP ... ccessories

Different resonator-less but nice tips:

Wow that sucks, $125 price jump? I think I'm going to build my own with a nice Flowmaster or Magnaflow unit.
Thanks for the input. I'd ship your brownie but its too hot today and it will melt.
