Finally had some decent weather so I could install my new y-pipe thats been sitting in the corner for over a week. First off, props to Racingline for a damn fine piece. Welds were awesome, and manderal bends were clean.

Issue #1Dislocation of my right shoulder and hamburger like knuckles due to the fact that the stock nuts and bolts were torqued on using an impact driver meant for monster trucks.

Issue #2Since there was no pipe extending past the flange that goes to the manifolds (like there is on the stock piece) its next to impossible to re-use the crush gaskets. Though with a bit of creative ingenuity, it's possible to keep them in place.

Issue #3The spacing of the holes on the "bolt side manifold" (one manifold uses bolts, the other has studs and nuts) were slightly (damn slightly) off which made it so only 2 of the bolts would ever go in...fought with this for about an hour before breaking out the drill and making the bottom right hole 1/1000000000th of an inch bigger.

Another small thing, just for an FYI, the instructions on the Racingline state that the bolts and nuts are all 14mm....it lies....all the bolts on my coupe were 15mm.

After doing some test driving, I can tell you that my butt dyno says that I lost a little on the low end, but gained a truckload in the mid and upper. The power transition from 2k - 4k rpm is amazing.

For those who've installed the y-pipe already, does the raspy'ness ever go away? I know it's very slight...but would love it if it just smooths out.

I was mildly shocked that there was little to no increase in sound output from the stock exhaust, though the tone is definitely deeper, heading towards that beloved 'G' sound.

One final thing: Hey Racingline! Where's my sticker?!

you noticed too!! I LOVE IT. the car sounds soo ANGRY from outside yet from the inside it's the perfect increase of sound without ANY drone. I can't rave enough about that y-pipe. why get an exhaust when you can get more HP and better sound with juste the y-pipe

because, its the sweetest sounding muffler replacement on the market... and they know it, so they won't budge on the price! Did you hear the Borla + y-pipe clip posted in the other thread

Maybe Blake will be willing to trade someone his Nissan Dealer -installed Borla prototype for a factory muffler before he trades his car in

honestly, I think you'll be a bit disappointed in the 350Z... noth that its not a fun ride, but by many acounts, and the fact that its gonna be a few years old, it may not even be faster than your 3.5... numerous head to head races have resulted in wins of the 3.5A/C vs the 350Z....

again, not that its not a fun ride, but I don't know if you'll notice a performance bump going from the A/C to the 350Z... handling, sure but performance, not so much.. and you're in MA which means worse handing in snow going from FWD to RWD... just be sure before you pull this trigger, you may end up unhappy...

someone on here switched from a 350Z to the 3.5A/C ... can't remember his handle, but I would speak with him about the two before going through with it since he has had a chance to drive around in Pennsylvania in the winter in both cars... he may tell you that going with the 3.5A/C was a mistake, or he may not, I don't know, but he would be a great person to ask if you're considering this switch... just my .03

i've done my research.. It would be a track car.

RWD for the win.

I love my alti, but it just can't compare to rwd fun.

im targeting an 07-08 z which is night and day vs previous 03-04 and 05-06 z's.

I would be modding also. Unfortunately i don't think the a/c can get to 300whp n/a without a build. The HR's can with tune and bolt on's.

ahh, I gotcha... definitely more modable than the A/C as most real sports cars are...and ur right, no way are you reaching 300whp in the A/C without a build or NOS or turbo... Good luck!

My brother who lives with me has an 07 350Z and I have a 3.5A/Cwe race sometimes just for fun, take it to the track or an empty backroad we have behind our house

the result is pretty the much the same, from a stop theres no way i would ever take him, rwd! now from a roll, we usually do 20 rolls, 40 rolls, and it always ends up being the same result we are neck and neck until about 90 then he just keeps pulling and pulling then again I think it might be a better race if we both had manual trans

His car has a nismo exhaust and nismo cold air intakes while my mods are on my sig either way you wont be dissapointed, I would opt for a 350Z(its a different animals to drive) but I have soo much extra space in my car being that Im a college student and I enjoy throwing books and fast food bags in the back whenever i want.

excuse the thread jack

your brother has an 07 manual, with the HR engine.. with CAI and NISMO exhaust... even with your UD pulley, no way the A/C can beat that straight up... the previous version 350Z's with the DE like ours is a different story... and the 03 and 04 without the rev up engines are even worse, redlining at 6200 instead of 6600..

anyway, back to the OP's original purpose... my y-pipe will be here tomorrow... I'll be installing it on Saturday before the canyon run... I'll let you know how the instll goes

ypipe works on all exhaust since it bolts up to the stock one

Racingline y pipe is a direct replacement of the stock y pipe... if your exhaust bolts up to the stock y-pipe, it'll bolt up to the aftermarket one

wow cool. is the y pipe = headers? or it connects to the headers? and does the ypipe remove the catalytic converter.. meaning is it legal to have installed?

no the y pipe comes directly after the headers... the y-pipe removes the third UNMETERED catalytic converter... so it doesn't through any check engine lights, and it should pass the sniffer emissions test just fine... with the visual test, if they know what the factory y-pipe should look like, and they do a visual inspection, then it may fail that... that's why it is designated and sold as "off road use only"

The headers first go to their respective cat with 02 sensor, then to the y-pipe.
