I know alot of people have problems or have a problem with the matching up of the racingline y-pipe and some have even had some flanges welded on before having it installed. My question before I go buying one is, does anyone have any experience with installing universal exhaust donut gaskets on one of these to make it easier? Something that looks like this?

If so I may end up getting something like this in the correct size for a easy install when purchasing the y-pipe. Thank you for any input and feedback.

I mainly want to know if anyone has issues with their Y-Pipe WITHOUT welding in the donut gaskets. I know a few people got these early on. I don't want to create an exhaust leak when I install this thing.

Same here...any issues without donuts vs any issues with donuts. And feedback on people that have used the donuts...Thanks

To my understanding only one person has "welded in pieces" to their pipe and they did so based on a shops perception of what should be there. To date in the last year of manufacturing these we have sold well over 150 units (200+ if you include our new 2010 Maxima Ypipe which is based on the same design) and not one to my knowledge has ever been "defective". The only leaks that have ever been reported were based on user error during installation and not using any sealant. Installing this pipe using the instructions will not result in leaks, period.

The type of donut gasket shown above is one usually made of a graphite material and is used for mounting ball style flanges so that they can move around without risk of leaking. Since our Ypipe is not made using that style flange I would advise against it since the likelihood of it fitting the pipe + mating to the precat without getting crushed and therefore destroyed is quite high.

Yah that would be me, with the shop welding on a collar around the y-pipe's flange. It was done as a precaution in case the sealant wouldn't work. I actually hadn't seen anyone's experience on here (or it never crossed my mind) regarding the installation process of the Y-pipe itself, so I didn't have any idea about if I would run into any issues / doubts. It just looked like it wouldn't seal 100% just metal to metal the way it comes (in case the sealant might not hold etc as the installer told me). Well it turns out the job the shop did is still working, but if sealant is really what's all that is needed, then I suppose I don't really have anything to worry about anyway since he put some on too.

I appreciate the feedback racingline. I have no reason to make negative feedback on the products you sell. I intend to buy this y-pipe myself. Just making sure I have everything I need when I get it as I will be doing the install myself in my garage and dont want to have to be finding parts to complete the install.

so according to your instructions (that I had to find online as I had none in my box upon receipt), I should have received bolts, nuts, and washers with my pipe that I received last thursday. I received nothing but a pipe in a box. No instructions, nuts, bolts, washers, decals - nothing. I take it I need to contact customer service?

Also, do these instructions imply that I need to reuse my existing gaskets and add copper RTV sealant? These gaskets typically lose their integrity once removed, and the OEM Nissan gaskets are donut crush gaskets that have to be held in place (by a neck or something like that the user above had added into his pipe). So I can completely understand why the shop took a precaution as that is the only sure fire method that will retain the gaskets in place so that they won't overlap the open pipe.

At this point, I'm not impressed. Sorry.

Thats exactly why I had questions about this pipe from statements like the previous user posted which Im sure hes not just making up. Seems alot of people have had or are curious about the problems associated with the reuse of old gaskets or just using rtv sealant. I would rather pay a extra $100 dollars and get everything I need including gaskets, nuts, bolts, etc and know I have a complete install then be worrying about what I need to piece together to make something work. Either the product should be complete with no worries or people will keep posting things like this which in the end only hurts peoples opinions on whether or not to buy an item.

RL has been active on the forums lately and there was still no response from this. Glad I didn't bother promoting this part at NOPI or IA this year. Tein, Tanabe, and AEM got more attention, and rightfully so. They include instructions with their parts as well as all of the necessary bolts/nuts/washers/etc. required to install their parts.

I agree, Trigg. I'd pay more money to receive EVERYTHING I NEED TO PUT THE PART ON, but apparently RL isn't interested in that either. Must be too much trouble to bother. I think all they ever wanted to do was sell 200 of these things. Good thing they made their quota.

I recall vaguely, that there may have been some instructions included in the box for my y-pipe. However, I don't remember seeing anything dealing with the donut copper gaskets for the 2 collectors, or mentioning anything about reusing OEM gaskets. Fortunately for me, the only gasket I had to reuse was the one on my cat-back and the 2 copper ones out front. The cat-back's gasket was that certain metal/fiberglass sandwich looking one, so it looked like it could be reused.

I did get the bolts and nuts needed for the install, but I would have appreciated a new rear section gasket also.

I can hear what seems like a rattle below ever since the install, whenever the car idles, so i need to have that looked at tomorrow when I go for oil and tire maintenance.
