So I was going about trying to install the Racingline Strut Bar on my 2010 3.5SR today thinking it would be a nice and easy install, but I ran into problems. I started on the drivers-side strut and unscrewed the screws without a problem. I noticed that the holes moved over a little so I picked up the car and moved the holes into place. Once I started screwing in the screws I guess it moved over again and started stripping the screw itself and the inside of the thread. I got one on no problem, but the other two I barely got on. One is poking out a little after trying to screw it in and I'm thinking the thread got screwed up on that one too...I have no idea what to do now...thought it was going to be easy, but I guess not. Any suggestions of what to do???

ok once you remove those bolts, the whole alignment is loose on the front end, moving the car with the bolts out probably set something out of whack... Ill get some more help on this... Odds are you are going to need a tow or will have a dangerous drive to a shop

If they shifted you are in trouble. BUT, I had the same problem with stripping threads. Buy a tap and you can fix it, thats what I did. Looking for thread on my fix now...

thanks for responding guys!!! Didn't even think about the search button lol...anyways, I'm going to try to re-thread the 2 threads giving me problems and see how it goes from there, my dad was helping me in trying to install this thing (he was pretty pissed about the threads getting messed up lol) but he has all these re-threading kits so we'll see what we can do...if nothing works, whats the best way to go about this? take it to a shop and let them fix it? I kinda feel like an idiot letting this happen...

Alright guys, good news. We fixed everything, but didn't end up installing the strut bar...too much of a hassle I guess. If anybody wants a black racingline strut bar and lives in Jersey and is willing to meet up and pick it up, be my guest =]. pm me for a price and details.

Do you have the accessories that come with it? (brackets etc) Damage free?

All the brackets are fine, but 4 screws got stripped from the whole incident...you can always buy matching screws from Home Depot or auto places.

giving up so already? you should get some new bolts and try it again, get a friend to help. after making that mistake the first time you should be able to avoid it the 2nd time. you should get it installed, it's a great suspension mod

When I installed mine a while ago I had the same problem with it moving slightly. I just jacked the car up slightly (did not take the wheel off the ground, just to ease the load on the suspension and I was able to knock it back into space. I think I put a screwdriver down the hole and hammered away to line it up. I have had mine installed for 2+ years no problem.

By the way, you should not give up so easy! Give it a 2nd shot, of the major mods I have done to my car (k&n intake, stillen exhaust, rear sway bar and new wheels/tires) the strut tower brace has the most noticable improvement on the car.

Im about 30 minutes from Maplewood, I can help you out too. But you really were right there! Just had to re-thread and pop those screws in. It really is a great mod, give it another try.

Don't give up!! Same thing happened to me, TWICE! First time i installed it i stripped a few but managed to get them on. Second time when i put my springs on i stripped a few and could get them in so i had to use a tap and die set and after that it was no problem. Just buy some new bolts if you have to and try again!
