Tommorrow there is a whole group of us racing on a abandoned road. This one guy who has a 96 z24 cavalier has been talking ****. I am raced him before in my 89 240 and I took him off the line bad but when I was in 4th he caught up and beat me. It was raining though and I couldn't control my car really. He was stock and I have only exhaust done.

Well now he still has the stock muffler but a big *** tip. I mean big. LOL. Shouldn't that slow him down a bit?

We are racing tommorrow and I think it would be pretty close. Both are manual and both have a 2.4 liter engine.

Who is going to win. Me

:ylsuper or him:mad:

Here are the results.

1st race was me and a v6 eclipse. He had headers, intake, and exhaust. I lost but not by much. Not even by half a car length.

2nd race. I killed the caviler. He didn't even bother coming back. As soon as I made the U Turn to go back he left. LOL:D

3rd race was me and a auto v6 camaro. Stock. I beat him by barely.

The cops came and we split. Pretty Fun. Good Night!!

You, the tip is like, negative horsepower. Actually, the added weight and dry conditions are in your favor.

the z24 has 150hp @ 5500 RPM and 167lb-ft @ 4000 RPM. it weights 2800 pounds. i have driven an automatic version of this car, and it wasnt as fast as my 95 240 auto, thats about all i can say tho =)

maybe take some pressure out of your tires just for the race, to get some traction off the line. and take out your spare while your at it and anything else sittin around in there just for the race. and go on as low a tank of gas as u can. i guess u already know most of that tho =) oh. and make sure your car is nice and warmed up, the hotter the oil the less friction in the engine.

I think you would kill that sh*t. I raced my friend's Cavy like 2 weeks ago. It was a 98, I tosted his *** all the way. His car was stock and mine has cai and exhaust. My car is a 97 though, so I have 10 horse more than you. But I dont think it would make that much of a difference. Good luck and tell us the result.

They got more horsies in 97? I didn't know that. Or was it the change from S13-S14 that did it?

if his car is a '89 or '90 w/ the SOHC, yes, the '97 has more power. the '91+ 240's had the DOHC motor w/ more power, ough ough ough (how do you type the Tim Taylor sound from Home Improvement?)

I raced a z24 in my 91 twice. The first time I lost due to crappy driving. However, the second time I took him pretty good the entire race. Just make sure that you drive as perfectly as you possibly can. If you keep your head and don't miss any shifts, you should do fine.

Pull the lower half of your airbox out and rubber band your air filter to the upper half. That might get you another horse or two. Your car is lighter, but underpowered. 2800 lb Cavalier vs a 2300 lb 240SX. Or a 150 HP Cavalier vs a 140 HP (brand new, your car is now 13 years old) 240SX. You better drive perfect. But its possible.

My '91 and my friends 97 z24 raced a few times. I won both times, usually by about a length or two... i'm not sure how the SOHC will handle against the z24 though.

How about an 89 240 mostly stock (Daunts airbox mod and a cleared cat {AUTO}) to a 90 Ford T-bird V-6 Auto? Or same 240 to a 98 Dodge truck V-6 5sp? We have an old runway to drag on, im gona go mark off a 1/4 mile on it tommrow.

I'm not sure how fast trucks are.... i know they're good for pulling stuff, but not sure about accleration

You'd beat him off the line, but again... im not sure how fast their acceleration is.

I wish I lived around there. I love racing. I stalk the streets looking for anyone to line up with. I think i'm actually a little excessive with it. I think you'll take the z24, just watch the launch, that's your big advantige, and make sure you're running the 1/4 mi. Not that 'whoever gets ahead' crap. I launch at 3-4k anything higher and it's a smoke show, even though I have LSD.

Good luck,

David.

The Dodge truck will win. Even though they are geared lower, it is usually only the first few gears. My truck is a torque monster in 1st and 2nd, 3rd is still jerky... after that it drives similar to a car. If he races you, you'll pull ahead first most likely. But once he gets through his first couple of gears... you'll be toast! Although... you being auto, you'll probably be toast from the get go.
