If I was to put a pair of Nismo Racing seats or any racing seats. and a 4 point harness or another point harness.... how would I install the harness? would a roll bar be a must to install them? or could I install them without? im in a 1993 240sx Coupe. I was wondering if anybody had any pictures of any Coupes with this done 89-93

im pretty sure some harnesses may be installed on the floor boards, but you run the risk of spine compression in a bad accident.

how would it cause spine compression? not trying to be a smart ***, just wondering the reason why and maybe I can make soem sort of thing that can prevent this? cause I really dont want those automatic seatbelts if I put racing seats in, would have to be one of the most taciest things ever.

i have a 4 point harness with my stock seat, my shoulder straps are in Y configuration, so i just bolted that into my rear left seatbelt hole. and for the pelvis ones i took my stock ones out, and bolted the new ones in existing holes, i havent installed the crotch one yet, im guessing ill have to drill a hole for that one.

as far as i know, it is perfectly safe to have them bolted to the frame like i have. the crotch one IS IS IS important though, so if you get one with yours, dont overlook it.

What happens is that when you stop suddenly (say a collision), your body begins to travel forward. If you anchor the shoulder harness to the bolts of your seat rails, as you travel forward, the belt wants to travel forward and down as it tries to flatten itself. This is what causes spinal compression. Your spine is squeezed by the belt as it travles downwards. If you install then at shoulder level or higher (such as on a cross member of a rollbar) you won't run that problem as the point of anchoring is not lower than your shoulders and therefor will not pull down on your spine.

roll bar or cage is also a must. if you flip the car and land hard enough on the roof to cave it in, the harness won't let you slide around, and it'll keep your head in such a position to be smashed. ruins your day, really

hey i was wondering how hard it is to make the brackets or modify the rails? also any clearance issues with those "racing" seats? do they sit too high or too low? and which buyer did u get them off of needforCA?

I hope the company at least had the decency of making them sturdy enough for impact.... Imagine those snapping in half...

ehh... it took me and my girlfriend's dad (who is an excellent welder) quite afew hours to build brackets that lowered the seat to the floor, but still bolted up perfectly to those funky curves of the s13 floor/stock mounting locations. I doubt he'd want to do it again, although it might be easier with a guide to follow this time. I'll ask him, but I highly doubt he'd be willing to waste another Sunday on it!:pface

as far as how high they sit, the bottom pad is HORRIBLY tall. Even with mine mounted so the rails touch the carpet, I was still hitting my head (I'm 6'3") so we ripped apart the seat and cut out almost 3 inches from the seat cushion. Now I sit so nice and low I can comfortably wear a helmet for driving events, and not hit my head!:)

as far as them being safe, mine was a pretty beefy steel bar running through it supporting all the padding (noticed that when I was cutting padding out)... they're just as heavy as stock, so I feel pretty safe. I could be wrong though...

I mean...you could just copy your existing ones...or like give me measuremeants, I have access to a welder

edit:since s14 seats bolt right into the s13, would I have any problems using those brackets in an s14?

yeah, next time i'm doing interior work I'll pull the passenger seat and take some pics (with measurements) and either post them or email them to ya. I'm too busy with school and work right now, but I might have a free weekend coming up here soon:)

I would assume the brackets are the same because the seats interchange between the chassis!
