Hi...I'm installing a new clutch in my s14 240; I went for the ACT 6-puck race kit on several recommendations about its strength and reliability. The kit just got here - the disc is truly a bada** piece of hardware, but I noticed it doesn't have the springs to soak up the jerk of engagement. The rest of my driveline is dead stock, so's my engine (KA24) except for a K&N filter, so what I want to know is, am I going to break things with this clutch? I'm fairly advanced with my left foot; double-clutching and heel-and-toeing are mastered, so if I just drive smoothly, will I be OK? I don't mind a snappy feel to my shifting (I think that's how I blew my clutch, shifting hard and fast), I just dont want to blow my diff or driveshaft or transmission and find myself out ANOTHER $450 and a weekend's work...

you should be ok as long as you dont do 7000rpm drops and speed shift everytime you drive.

Well, I finished the install and drove 160 highway miles back to long island - this is a good clutch. Real good. Really tricky to drive without either stalling, spinning or just bashing the daylights out of the rear end, but really good nonetheless. Nowhere near broken in though, so I dont know how smooth its going to be when I push it.

Know this is old but for future reference: ACT's website states that their race clutches do not have to be broken in like street clutches. The puck clutches just need to be slipped a couple times and your good to go.

Makes sense, because they are "Race" clutches, drag racers don't have time to go and drive to and from grandma's to break it in.

After mine had an unfortunate incident with not EVER being allowed to engage fully for about 50 or 60 hard miles, it doesn't feel nearly as firm or grippy. Still held up to 326whp on the dyno though. Good clutch ;)

it might accelerate the wear on your transmission and motor mounts
