Car: Race 1990 240 stock car 1/4 mile oval track

Considering trying auto trans in 1/4 mile oval track. Is it tough enough to run in 2nd at 4500 to 6400. Or are mods needed. Reason for considering is weight break and better ratio than current standard. running 1989 240sx.

2nd gear at high rpms should not be a problem. may want to wire up a switch to control torque converter lock up. that way once you are up to speed you can lock the tc and keep your trans temps down.

i dont remember what the converter lockup circuit looks like but...there should be a duty cycle type of solenoid in the valve body. it controls atf flow to converter clutch. if you could max the duty cylcle out with a switch then it should lock the converter clutch.

also, for racing, a larger, aftermarket transmision cooler wouldnt be a bad idea
